[close] "On paths unknown, we tread with wonder. Through a glass darkly, to brave new worlds and beyond we go." We seek to explore and do critical reading from any genre on challenging literature, both new and established, that links into themes of exploring ideas relating to various aspects of culture, society and technology, as well as what is loosely called 'literary fiction'; and in addition, non-English translated literature from around the world. We also discuss classics as well as avant-garde literature from all eras inasfar as they have challenged the world around them. The idea is to provide not only a forum for discussion, but a database of book-ish information for the eclectic reader. Our threads all remain open indefinitely, so you can browse through and read and/or contribute at your own leisure.

[close] This group is focused on international literature and writing. After being inspired by Ann Morgan's dedication to reading at least one book from every independent country in the world [http://ayearofreadingtheworld.com/], I decided to try out her list. The only thing that could make it better would be sharing the experience with others! Having started with the letter A, Afghanistan is the first nation read. Books from Afghanistan include: - The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini - A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini - The World is a Carpet: Four seasons in an Afghan village, by Anna Badkhen - Peace Meals, by Anna Badken - The Photographer, by Emmanuel Guibert - Behind the Burqa, by Batya Sweift Yasgur - A thousand Rooms of Dream and Fear, by Atiq Rahimi - The Patience Stone, by Atiq Rahimi - Earth and Ashes, by Atiq Rahimi - Afghanistan: A military history from Alexander the Great to the present, by Stephen Tanner If you are interested in a spreadsheet of the list, let me know.
