The Forgotten Realms is a campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) fantasy role-playing game. Commonly referred to by players and game designers alike as "The Realms", it was created by game designer Ed Greenwood around 1967 as a setting for his childhood stories. Several years later, Greenwood brought the setting to the D&D game as a series of magazine articles, and the first Realms game products were released in 1987. Role-playing game products have been produced for the setting ever since, as have various licensed products including sword and sorcery novels, role-playing video game ...more

“ Montolio tilted his head helplessly against Drizzt's unending stream of pessimism. It pained him deeply to see the good-hearted drow so scarred. 'He might indeed,' Montolio said, a bit more harshly than he had intended, 'but the loss of life is only great to those who chance to live it! Let your arrow come in low and catch the huddler on the ground, I say. His death would not be so tragic! ...more ”
“ In my stubborn youth, I believed that I could stand alone, that I was strong enough to conquer my enemies with sword and with principles. Arrogance convinced me that by sheer determination, I could conquer helplessness itself. Stubborn and foolish youth, I must admit, for when I look back on those years now, I see quite clearly that rarely did I stand alone and rarely did I have to stand alone. Always there were friends, true and dear, lending me support even when I believed I did not want it, a ...more ”

[close] This group is for anyone who would like to join me at any point and for any parts of this epic literary journey. There are just shy of 300 books set in the Forgotten Realms and I’m going to be embarking on an epic adventure to read as many of them as I can. I planned this challenge quite a while ago and only got one book in before life got crazy and put a lot of things on a halt. I’m ready and excited to pick this project back up. Rules & Structure: - All books will be checked to be sure they can either be easily found and purchased for less than $20 USD OR available in at least 100 libraries based on WorldCat. (For most of them both criteria fit but I was only requiring one to have it be part of this project). - Most of these are series, so I have a series-specific rule. If I get a quarter of the way thru a series and just am not enjoying it the series will be dropped from the project. - Books will be read in publication order. - For anyone who decided to join me for any of the books, I will be setting up a schedule and since I want this to be low pressure and fun it will be slower reader-friendly! There will also be an “off week” in-between books both to pace me and also in case anyone (including me lol) who may have gotten behind on the chapter goals has some catchup time. - Schedules will be posted in “year blocks” based on their original publication year.
