Animals are multicellular, eukaryotic organisms of the kingdom Animalia (also called Metazoa). All animals are motile, meaning they can move spontaneously and independently, at some point in their lives. Their body plan eventually becomes fixed as they develop, although some undergo a process of metamorphosis later on in their lives. All animals are heterotrophs: they must ingest other organisms or their products for sustenance.

“ A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral. ”
“ You think those dogs will not be in heaven! I tell you they will be there long before any of us. ”
[close] In the world of Keras, in the country of Aiden, every year, a few children are born with the attributes of animals. Although they were originally called the Blessed children and thought to be gifts from the gods, people began to become jealous of the Blessed powers and social standing. This jealously grew like a disease and the Blessed children started to be hated, to be called the Cursed. People asked if they actually knew the Blessed were gifts from the gods and not manipulators sent by the demons. Over the years, this thinking became more prominent and eventually, everyone forgot that the children were once called Blessed, and not Cursed. In the present age, everyone lives in fear that their child will be one of the Cursed. Luckily for these Cursed children however, people are afraid of their powers and what would happen if they killed a Cursed child. And so, the old palace that had once been converted into a school for the Blessed, has become a prison for the Cursed. The Cursed now live out their lives trapped in the place that was once their haven. Are you a Cursed child? Can you survive in a world that hates, fears and traps you? Find out as you enter, The Palace of the Cursed.

[close] VINE Sanctuary is an LGBTQ-led farmed animal sanctuary that works for social and environmental justice as well as animal liberation. The VINE Book Club serves two purposes: 1. For any of us to start discussions about any books we are reading that are in any way relevant to our shared aims of animal liberation, social justice, and ecological renewal. Books about animals! Books about speciesism and its many intersections! Books about activism in all of its manifestations! Books about ecological thinking! Books about animal ethics or human-animal relations! Fiction with animal protagonists! Poetry that provokes people to think differently about the world beyond the human! And etcetera! 2. For those who choose to participate in our monthly book club meetings via Zoom, a place to plan for and continue those discussions. For those meetings, VINE chooses a book and invites the author (or an expert suggested by the author) to Zoom into the discussion. Both of these are in service of one big purpose: To collectively blow our minds by exposing ourselves to facts, ideas, perspectives, and artistry that will help us to become better able to imagine a different world and figure out how to realize those dreams.

[close] We read books about all types animals, reptiles, sea life, birds, and insects. Also, any book with these as a second main character. The book that comes to mind as an example is "A Walk Across America" by Peter Jenkins. His dog was in the book throughout as a 2nd main character. Have you read a book based on these topics listed above and would like to discuss it? You've come to the right place. Suggestions always welcome.
