Descubrí a Bill Bryson en un viaje a Inglaterra, hace ya algunos años. Pregunté por él a la vendedora, y me comentó maravillas del escritor. Lo compré, lo leí, y me gustó mucho. Se trataba de “Notes from a small island”. Desde entonces he seguido sus libros con bastante asiduidad, y lo considero un escritor genial y divertido a partes iguales.

Viajar por Europa es una aventura. Si el que viaja lo hace desde Noruega hasta Turquía, los contrastes están garantizados. Pero si además el que viaja es un americano del Medio Oeste afincado en Gran Bretaña, las carcajadas se oyen desde aquí.
Empieza bien pero las quejas y los prejuicios típicamente yankees avanzan a medida que el libro se desarrolla. Parece más el relato de una persona joven que nunca salió de su país que la de un periodista en sus largos 30s. Me gustó mucho al principio, aunque hacía el final mi entusiasmo fue bajando.
