Okay, so this book is like a rollercoaster you never saw coming. Niki Gregory manages to spin a tale that's all about sisterly love, found families, and the kind of creepy stuff that's usually reserved for horror movies.
First off, let's talk about the writing – it's seriously beautiful. Gregory hooks you in from the get-go, and good luck trying to put the book down once you start. It's like she kidnaps your attention and holds it hostage until you've devoured every page.
The story revolves around this girl who's stuck between two worlds, and you're right there with her, feeling the love, the fear, and the urgency. But what makes it stand out? The mystical bits. Trust me; they're not just thrown in for kicks. They add this cool layer to the whole thing like your everyday life just got a supernatural upgrade.
And the point of view? Brilliant. It's like you're in the protagonist's head, going through the wild ride with her. The intensity is real, making you hold your breath at every turn.
But here's the kicker – you won't want to miss the race to save this girl. Gregory keeps you on your toes, turning pages like your life depends on it. The pacing is spot-on, making it impossible to hit pause.
So, if you're up for a story that mixes family ties, spooky elements, and a whole lot of heart, Running in the Shadows is your jam. Niki Gregory has crafted something seriously special here. Don't let this unique, hair-raising adventure slip through the cracks – you'll be missing out on one heck of a ride!
What started out as a book about a young girl’s life cut short, turned into this epic book about good vs. evil. Lucy was unaware how special she was. She was given plenty of signs from her granny but she was afraid to look deeper into her gifts. When tragedy occurs, no one is prepared for what was going to happen in l their lives. As time passed and Lucy was a ‘living dead girl’, her family was unaware of the evil that followed them. A powerful witch was trying to steal Lucy’s soul to bring forth Satan. very time the witch was blocked from her goal, Lucys family was brought into more dangerous situations.
As I read this book I felt sorry for all involved. I could envision Lucy hiding in the shadows trying to figure out her purpose. Mia’s guilt was overwhelming and it almost seemed she was providing the feelings for the witch to enter her life. I throughly enjoyed all the women working together for the good of their group. Mia truly did have an amazing support system for what the group would have to believe and tackle. As I reached the end of this complicated, emotional novel; I came to realize there would need to be another book to describe the war that was coming. I look forward to the next installation of this series.
This book was wonderful. I can't think of another book that was anything like this! It was sad to start, made me cry, felt so awful for the mother. The witch terrified me, but at the same time I felt so curious about her. Turns out, she too was a victim, like what?! This book had me hooked and couldn't imagine where the story would go next. The side characters were strong, heroic women and I loved that they were referred to as crows. Crows are mystifying birds and represent so much in the world of the dead. Everything about this book was great. A spooky paranormal that dabbles in horror, romance and thriller genre.
“Memoirs of a Living Dead Girl” is an imaginative, well-written, and thought-provoking novel that delves deep into questions of life, death, and morality. Gregory does a fantastic job of pulling the reader into this world. The book is the perfect blend of spooky, heartfelt, and thrilling. Fans of stories with supernatural elements, psychological horror, and magic will surely love this book. Highly recommend!
This is a must-read paranormal tale that really hooks you from the start. The unique perspective feels fresh, yet also taps into those thoughts and feelings we all have. We follow Lucy, Mia, and their crew as they navigate the living and the dead, uncovering Lucy's story and facing some seriously scary stuff. It's just the right blend of new and familiar that keeps you hooked. I highly recommend it!
This was a really good and engaging book. The only thing that really lost it the full 5 stars is the dialogue. When a character is telling a story they share it like an author and not like a person having a conversation. It felt really strange. The ending has disappointing bits too. It does not end in a way that makes it so you wont have to read a sequel. But a good book regardless.
Hey now! Little bit of horror and fantasy, both my vibe. Enjoyed the characters and definitely invested to see what happens next with the living dead girl!
I enjoyed this book! Fast paced. Really spooky. I liked the vibes of it. I don’t want to give a lot away. Haven’t read a book like this before, will read more of this authors work!
I am so looking forward to book 2! I was blown away by this book! I found it so interesting that it was in her POV as a ghost! It was spooky and creepy and fast paced!
This was a pretty decent book. I did feel like there were parts of the story that the timeline didn’t seem to make sense. We never really knew the age of Lucy when she was unalived because they would refer to her as a little girl and then as a teenager and it seemed like granny had stayed with them longer than one summer but overall it was pretty good and I would recommend the book!
