Jake Parker is the illustrator of many books for young readers as well as animated films and comic books. He also lives near the mountains, in Provo, Utah, and wishes the little snowplow would stop by his driveway every winter.
I absolutely loved the combination of comic & spaceship technical manual. The illustrations were amazing & the cutaways were even better. This is really the perfect book for me — you should see my shelf of spaceship technical manual books!
For me, personally, I’m not keen on the gendering of spaceships as “she” — especially something set in the future. It feels antiquated & always throws me out of stories.
It's a love letter to spaceships! Every page has beautiful hand drawn art that invites you in to take in the details. All of it has a distinct hand drawn quality that I love; it's a distinct visual style.
While it's only part comic to mostly technical manual, I enjoyed the read. Hopefully in the future we'll see a full length graphic novel featuring Skull and contraband poultry.
It's Jake Parker art which I like but I was hoping for more cut-away views than we got. I also thought the comic would be more of a comic but really it's just a way of introducing each chapter.
