As a deeply emotional and highly sensitive lady living in a success- and wealth-driven society that judges and rejects emotional people, Dorenda believed she was deeply flawed because she was unable to control her emotions like everyone else. She spent forty-some years striving to earn acceptance and avoid rejection by tending to everyone else's moods, needs and wants, while sacrificing her own.
After the death of her father, a major car crash, a job loss, and the betrayal of her romantic partner, she was consumed with physical and emotional pain and fell into a deep, dark depression. Believing she was a failure, a burden, and no earthly good, she was ready to end her suffering. Sitting on her porch deciding which method would be quick and certain, she had a vision of people all over the world living fabulous lives they loved, and wondered what they knew that she didn't. She decided to give life one last try and put her full focus on figuring out why some people are happy while others are miserable. Soon, she realized that believing she was flawed and unworthy, focusing on everyone else, and sacrificing herself was at the root of her suffering. She focused on her own well-being, embraced her emotional nature, and let go of invalid and unhelpful beliefs. Once she stopped sacrificing herself, a whole new way of life opened up to her. Today, Dorenda celebrates life, lives it on her own terms, prioritizes playtime, and loves coaching and guiding highly sensitive and emotional people to embrace who they are and find freedom and joy. In What Is Wrong with Me?, Dorenda outlines the process she followed to let go of the darkness and embrace the light. Along the way, she shares personal stories about what it was like as an emotional child raised by a mother who did not understand.
Dorenda shares such a raw personal journey through pain and survival to her triumphant new happy gratitude for everyday life. Truly thankful to read and learn new tools to deal with emotional trauma baggage that I have carried for way too long! Highly recommend this book!
