American actress and mathematician.

She is best known for her role as Winnie Cooper in the television show The Wonder Years.
Now she is known as author of the nationally bestselling book, Math Doesn't Suck, which encourages and empowers middle-school girls with mathematics know-how.
Math Doesn't Suck was so popular McKellar wrote more novels about math, including Kiss My Math and Hot X. She also wrote a sequel to Math Doesn't Suck for years 6 through 9.
McKellar shows many people that just because you are an actor, that doesn't mean you are stupid. Although she is best known through The Wonder Years, that doesn't mean she isn't a wonderful writer and great mathematician.

The Times Machine! is the follow-up to Do Not Open This Math Book. The Times Machine! is for third and fourth grade and has the same characters. It has more comics, and they are time traveling, teaching multiplication and division with cartoons. We see the dinosaurs. We meet Jane Goodall briefly. We travel all over the world, China, India, Mexico, everywhere. There are so many fun little things in this book for kids to enjoy.

In the back, there's also a new math translation guide that teaches adults multiplication techniques to make sure that parents have a resource when they are helping with math at home.

Danica McKellar does it again with another wonderful math book! The Times Machine explores multiplication and division, starting with simple facts and working up through multi-digit multiplication and long division. The reader joins Mr. Mouse and Ms. Squirrel on a “Times Machine” adventure to learn about the history and magic of multiplication and division.

As a middle school math teacher, I think this book is an incredible guide for 3rd-4th grade students to master the foundations of multiplication and division prior to the higher level math they will begin to learn in middle school. I appreciated the abundance of mathematical vocabulary and terminology used to teach these concepts. The format of the book is wonderful, with the adorable cartoons, the many examples, tips, tricks, and the “Game Time” practice problems. The chapters are well organized, and make the book easy to utilize. While I currently teach at the middle school level, I think this book could still be a helpful optional resource for a struggling student or as review, especially at the 6th grade level. I like how the book presented multiple strategies and tricks, since it is so important for students to develop problem solving skills by learning to explore different methods for solving. The Times Machine takes the reader on a colorful adventure full of learning, and makes math fun!

Absolutely wonderful and helpful book! Danica’s creativity, and knowledge of helping you and your children learn math is impeccable!

My daughter and I LOVED this book, and it was great during the homeschooling while we were all affected by Covid-19. You will help your child understand division and multiplication the way us parents were taught, and the way our children are currently being taught. This should be a must have for elementary schools! My daughter went from a low B, to a high A!

The pictures and story telling has something for everyone! You will really enjoy this book!

3.75 stars. This book uses many different objects and methods to teach readers the math concepts of multiplication and division. Some examples include using an array, which means visualizing the math as rows and columns. The book also discusses factors and products, plus much more. Perhaps if I had been aware of the McKellar math series when I was in math classes, the subject would not have been daunting and grueling. I skimmed this book as I found Danica's first book regarding addition and subtraction much more engaging.

I didn't like this one as much as some of her other books, but I did find it to be a solid math book that I think kids would find very helpful. I only wish I could get the kids that need it to read it.🤷‍♂️

"Multiplication is repeated addition."

Right from the start this book makes math sound easy, doable and fun.

There is no one right, or only way presented for various concepts, and I appreciate the author taking the time to note how the previous generation most likely learned to do something versus how it is being taught now. For those of us struggling to understand terms like "base 10" and "new math" reading a book that focuses on the math, how to get it done, how it most likely looks at school (and showing more than one possible version) is nice.

There are some great memory tricks in here for kids still learning the difference between rows and columns, and the times machine is simply fun, as are the characters that go on this learning adventure.
