Everything intensifies in this installment. We get some plot action, character development, and relationship drama. The romance is not as prominent as it was in the first book. However, considering the progress it makes on the other aspects of the story, this book is still very much gripping, emotional, suspenseful, funny, sexy, and just all around fabulous.

I gave the first book in this series 5 stars and it was one of my favorite romances I read last year. This book was okay. I still love the relationship between the main characters and this post apocalyptic world is so cool, but I felt like this suffered too much from second book syndrome. For a good 50% absolutely nothing happened and it felt like filler. I am still excited to read the 3rd book and see how it all ends!

That ending thooooo... I don't even know what I'm going to do with myself while I'm waiting for Dying For Rain. Rain and Wes made it. They survived April 23rd. Sweeeeet! However, the world had descended into even more chaos and survival wasn't guaranteed. They needed to find food and shelter. They needed to save their friend. And they needed to figure out what their future, if they even had a future, would be.

Overall Opinion: I'm a little bummed by this one tbh. I wanted it to be as good as the first, but I'm afraid it is the dreaded 2nd book in a trilogy. It felt a lot like filler to get us to the last book. I'm still going to jump into that one because I want to know how it will all end -- but this was just okay for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

I couldn’t wait to get my hands back on Wes and Rain because Ms. Easton did such a great job of hooking me in book one. I wanted, no I NEEDED, to find out where she was going with the plot and book two was a seamless transition into what turned out to be some awesome twists and turns. I’m usually pretty good at predicting but I was kept on my toes and pleasantly surprised.

I am just speechless right now. I didn't think it was possible to top Praying for Rain, but this one certainly did just that. From start to finish, I was completely and utterly hooked on this book. Fighting for Rain was intense, gripping, sexy, and absolutely amazing! It definitely brought out all of the feels in me. I smiled. I cried. I raged. How do you rid the Earth of humans? Rid the humans of their humanity. Simple as that!

As the series progresses, more portals open, and my admiration for the talent that BB possess only intensifies. This is a series I urge every single person to read. It’s so unique and artistic and has me hanging off of every word.

I don't really want to be mean in this review, but what in the F did I just read? This was worst than the first one, and I'm surprised I even made it this far. Again, I don't feel like doing a long review especially for such a short book, so this will be just a quick rant (again, hopefully).

So the first thing I didn't like, was how much Wes wasn't even in the book. We had pure Rain POVs up until maybe like 50% and then Wes didn't reappear until about 60%, so ya, that's kind of 2 Eh Stars

I don't really want to be mean in this review, but what in the F did I just read? This was worst than the first one, and I'm surprised I even made it this far. Again, I don't feel like doing a long review especially for such a short book, so this will be just a quick rant (again, hopefully).

So the first thing I didn't like, was how much Wes wasn't even in the book. We had pure Rain POVs up until maybe like 50% and then Wes didn't reappear until about 60%, so ya, that's kind of dumb. But then again, most trilogies with couples always go this cliche way of making the couples part in the second book for a useless reason, and this trilogy so far is full of cliches.

I also hated Wes being gone because I legit couldn't stand Rain or the mall people. I don't care about most of what anyone did, especially the cliche evil Q lady, who I couldn't stand. The heroine was WEAK. She let everyone stomp all over her, especially the Q girl, and did NOTHING about it. Literally! The Q girl drags her by her hair and slaps her with rings on in front of everybody, all because she didn't eat any of the mall peoples food because she has her own supply, which everyone does, and what does Rain do? She BEGS to stay! Legit begs! She was afraid to go outside because it "reminds her of home". She legit has a panic attack just from going outside to rinse off in the rain even though she was totally fine with it in the first book. I hate how she acts like she's the only one that really has had something bad happen to her. Shes afraid to leave the place, and yet the people inside treat her like crap, and offer nothing but what? To be around more people?? So pretty much instead of having growth and development in these last 2 books, she goes from weak to super freaking weak.

I didn't care for the first book too much, so I was at least hoping this one would be better, but nope. This book went from something useless happening to more useless things happening. We got more time with the mall people and Carter especially, that alone almost made me want to DNF, and then we got Wes leaving for no reason, then coming back, then having to leave again. Then we have a weak heroine, and of course that little somethin' somethin' happening right at the end which I think everybody expected to happen, and was again, very anticlimactic.

So overall, not a great book, it was boring, drab, and I won't be reading the next in the series. ...more

Well, if I ever doubted BB’s bad assery before now, (which I didn’t), I can promise you I never will. Ever. She brings that attitude to her writing with this whole series, but especially this book. I’m still trying to come up with the words to articulate the feels this book evoked within me. Never would I ever have imagined that I would be into a dystopian romantic suspense story, but leave it to BB to make me a believer.

Devastating
Chaotic
BADASS!

If I had to describe this book in 3 words, those would be it. I honestly cannot BELIEVE what I just read. Since this book starts right where PFR left off, there was no trouble getting into it. It was like hitting resume on my favorite action movie (which is laughable because I do NOT watch those. But with BB’s stories, I am totally game for my heart to race like a frickin jackhammer). I’ll admit: I was uber afraid to start this book. I barely survived the emotions brought on by book 1. I honestly have no idea how I survived this book either. Because really, for all the action & danger within this book, (believe me, there’s SO MUCH!) what really got to me was the nostalgia & heartache Wes and Rain experience in this desolate, unforgiving time. They’ve had everything taken from them. They each deal with it in very different ways. But the fact that they craved normalcy and comfort from each other the most in the most desperate of times was so obvious. I love their connection. Wes acts like this intense brick wall with absolutely no feelings when really his biggest weakness is Rainbow Williams. And Rain? She is trying to figure out just exactly who she is now that her version of normal has disappeared. And Wes is such a huge part of that. They deserve everything perfect and good in the world.

BB Easton, my lady, were BORN to write. Your stories are phenomenal. They never disappoint. Let me tell you something: I remember when I went to Book Bonanza 2019 last year. Staci Hart was talking about angst in books and how authors keep readers on their toes. She said something along the lines of how the relationship is like a cookie. You dangle that cookie like it’s your job and just when readers think they FINALLY have the cookie, you take it away. Okay well, replace cookie with my heart & that’s what happened to me the whole book. You see BB, I HAD my heart at the start of this book. As evidenced by the rapid beating of it. BUT! I gave it gladly with some sweet moments. Got it back. THEN! THENNNNN! You straight up STOLE IT! TOOK IT! And didn’t give it back until 60 something percent of the book was over. And I thought, oh okay cool we’re FINE! No. No no noooooo. Because it just kept happening after that. It was like you played tug of war with my heart. I was happy then angry then worried then hopeful then scared then back to happy. And by the end? DEVASTATION! But it was WORTH IT! I’ll just say “fuck em and survive [my heartache] anyway.” 😌

I need book 3 like I need to breathe, okay? I’m not joking when I tell you I’ve been a fumbling screaming mess since I finished. My mom literally wants to ship me off to Crazytown. I definitely shouldn’t have had that coffee while reading. I legit couldn’t catch my breath or form a coherent sentences for like 2 hours. It’s a miracle I’m writing this right now.

I should probably point out Dying for Rain comes out the day before my birthday. I really don’t think I can handle it, I’m so excited. And don’t even START with that freaking playlist. I’ve played one particular song a bazillion times and cannot quit crying. I NEED ANSWERS!

The action and intensity start immediately when the world DOESN’T end. The damage is done. The world has unraveled into a lawless chaos. Wes and Rain have no time to revel in the fact that they survived, and with a couple found friends along the way, they very quickly have to seek shelter while they deal with the aftermath of a ter Here we are again. Me trying to articulate just how phenomenal of a storyteller BB Easton is. Fighting for Rain delivers so much more than I ever could have imagined. The action and intensity start immediately when the world DOESN’T end. The damage is done. The world has unraveled into a lawless chaos. Wes and Rain have no time to revel in the fact that they survived, and with a couple found friends along the way, they very quickly have to seek shelter while they deal with the aftermath of a terrible accident. Little do they know that they are walking into a place already swimming with past ghosts and new antagonists, not to mention learning the mind-bending revelation of the vile psychopathic reason behind all of it.

Something obvious but still needs to be shouted—Wes and Rain ARE the stars of this crazy, raw, stressed show. Period. Rain is still so broken, and she can’t outrun the horrific memories that led her to be at peace with dying in the impending apocalypse. Wes fought tooth and nail to ensure her survival and tada, the apocalypse didn’t happen. No jumping for joy for Rain though. She’s too fractured and the one reason she is barely hanging on is because Wes is by her side. Wes is there, the only thing knocking down the cage in her brain, one bar at a time. And oh my Wes. WES! For me, he is the SUPERstar of the show. Damn this man has been through hell and back…only he had to kick and punch and drag himself tortuously slow out of it, just to find himself spending all of his energy on one thing—survival. Until Rain of course. The shitastic life he’s been dealt has left him with an extreme case of self-doubt. No one has ever cared about him before and though he loves Rain more than anything, he can’t fight his insecurity. But this man of men, this legend of a man, this epically heart-achingly loyal man shucks that doubt off the back of his motorcycle and fights for Rain with a renewed fervor.

I said it after Praying for Rain and I will say it now with my own renewed fervor—Wes and Rain are two of the best characters I have ever read. BB dives deep into each of their beings to vibrantly splash every anxiety-ridden feeling, every idiosyncrasy, and every single trait onto the pages with a flourish. And I would be remiss to not point out that the secondary characters wholeheartedly support this story. And it’s a story completely original and extraordinarily written. I thought I was so excited because I was finally diving into Fighting for Rain which was a long time coming after Praying. But let me tell you I was not ready, and neither are you. Because this book will rip you apart and leave you in a post apocalyptic hot mess of shattered hearts and shredded souls. Now I’m glad that the author waited to finish the trilogy and release the last two books back to back, because that’s only humane to us unsuspecting readers.

I might have survived April 23, but not all of me made it out alive.

I liked the first book more.

This one wasn't as exciting or fast paced. In fact, the whole middle part was basically just Rain playing doctor and Wes being gone, which I didn't care for. It got monotonous and boring, and I was wishing for something to salvage this book.

And so, enter the last 20%. Which was awesome. That ending..! I loved it!

Speechless! Oh, Wes! I fell for you in Praying, but Fighting Wes has consumed me. The passion and the turmoil in their relationship has truly sent me on an emotional roller coaster. BB Easton writes in a way that makes me feel like a friend is telling me a story that happened to her. She has turned Rain into my friend. Rain has so much to offer those around her and it’s going to take a man like Wes to show her all of the ways she deserves to be loved.

First off, the normal stuff:

1. Rain goes from survivor to spineless mess. PTSD makes sense. But everyone should have PTSD in this world.....what was the point in all that survivor talk in the last book? A lot of the things that happened to Rain seemed to be a case of lazy writing and dumb manufactured drama. Why didn't she communicate with Wes at the start of the book? Why did she never show any agency? The nursing doesn't really count when it's a symptom of her lack of self wort ...more
