This world is evil.

My mother used to tell me that evil only comes to those who are looking for it, and maybe she was right.

Corruption and death walk hand and hand in this town. I refuse to give in, but giving up seems to be my only option.

As a detective, I’ve seen enough killing for ten lifetimes, and now, leaving is the only way to keep my sanity.

I never thought t

I seriously enjoyed this serial killer chiller, of a gruff burnt out cop disgusted at a legal system's corruptness and a new female detective, all blonde hair and boobs, as they try to catch a vigilante nicknamed The Hangman. The ending did leave the story up in the air but I simply had to break my "no new books" rule for this year and download the next book so I could continue their story of the hunt for the killer, and to also track down the mysteries in the backgrounds of both the Detectives. ...more

I was surprised that this was written by women authors. This story of homicide detectives tracking down a serial killer is straight out of the 50’s where the male cops are tough and cocky and every female character is valued according to the quality of her boobs and butt. Really, this is what police work is all about.

Sophomoric and predictable, I won’t be picking up any more of this series.

Unless you plan to read the rest of the series, don't bother with this. In most series books, at least some things are resolved in the first book - not this one. Zero questions are answered. And based on this book, my desire for answers is outweighed by not wanting to read any more terrible dialogue. Also, the authors should not be writing about the legal system if they don't know anything about it. For example - in a criminal case, there is no such thing as "the plaintiff's brother" and a judge ...more

My free Amazon books are always hit or miss, and I'm not sure what this was but it was very meh.

Considering the book opens on the main character, Jake, sleeping with a (much younger) woman whose name he forgot, it got off to a bad start to me in the feminism department. Then we meet Jake's new partner, Jo, and things start to change in terms of him and feminism. However, I still feel like this aspect is forced, in an "I'll only respect women who are hot/who are doing something for me" kind of wa

I’m really enjoying the writing style of WL Knightly! This was an awesome first book for the series. Of course this ends in a cliffhanger but isn’t that what suspense is?

Detective Jake Thomas joined the force to make a difference, but has become jaded by the corruption that surrounds him. He has two weeks to get his replacement familiar with protocol. They are called to a murder scene, where the victim has been hung. Dubbing the killer The Hangman, he likes to toy and play games with his victim

Plan on reading this in one sitting!

A serial killer, killing those who have perverted justice. One detective on his way to retirement. One detective coming in to replace him.
This book didn't let up....ever. Although Detectives Make and Jo are closing in, the killer stays one step ahead. Who will be next? The injustices are carried out by so many in the justice system it will be hard to figure out who's next.

This was a good book. However, the book ended in the middle of the story. There was not even a hint of wrapping things up. I won't buy the next book because I feel like I have been shorted on this book. Doing this is just trying to ensure someone will buy the next book just to find out what happened. Instead, you should write well enough that people want to read the next book you write. I really resented the way this stopped, I won't say ended" right in the middle of the story. You got two stars ...more

Like other reviews, didn't care for how the book just ends. Why not a cliffhanger? But isn't the main issue I have with this book. The two lead characters are Annoying, their conversations seemed childish. Felt more like a bad romance thriller or new adult definitely not a mystery or thriller. Got the feeling they were the only two detectives in the city of Spokane. Not sure I would continue series even if remaining books were feee.

Fantastic book, really really enjoyed this one... Jake is a likeable character with a few issues which you don’t really get the full details on in this first book. He’s been a detective for some years and is quite jaded by the corruption in the justice system as well as haunted by the things he’s seen and experienced. He struggles to sleep and has become quite withdrawn from society on a personal social level. Jo is a new (fresh to the job) detective who is taken on with a view to taking over fr ...more
Two housewives guess about law enforcement & what corruption looks like...

...with predictable results. Pretty stupid book, not sure why people thought it was good except for lack of an an ending. If it's called "Hangman Book 1" these two idiot characters will be chasing the same guy throughout. Not surprising - they really are idiots, but not in an interesting or believable way. The author(s) go for over-the-top crass, but missed the mark in creating a believable male character (no matter how mu

Silent Crime by WL Knightly is the first book in the Hangman series. WL Knightly is the writing team of friends, Lexy Timms and Ali Parker. Detective Jake Thomas of the Spokane Police Department is on his way out. He is tired of the corruption and evil that seems to fill the streets. He is given one last case in order to train his replacement, Officer Jo Calloway, and what he doesn’t realize is that this case will affect more personally than ever before. There is a serial killer known as the Han ...more

Hangman Is No Child's Game In This Great Series

Absolutely to die for!! The W. L. Knightly team is back and rearing to go in this gripping series. Detective Jake Thomas has had enough sleepless nights due to the corruption and lifeless eyes that haunt him. With only two weeks to go retirement is looking good until his phone rings. Now there is a new case and he has to train his replacement, a bubbly blond, Jo, that looks like she should be shopping instead of investigating. Jo "Josephine" Callowa

This book is about Detective Jake who is retiring from the police force although he is in his late thirties. He is frustrated at the criminals winning and the corruption visible in the government sectors.
When Detective Jo comes to the team as his replacement. They become partners for the time that he has left working for the department.
Gruesome murders start to take place. The only thing these murders have in common are that the victims were involved in corruption in their role.

If you've read the Zodiac series, you'll know that this duo writes an amazing mystery/suspense/thriller story. I wasn't sure this was going to be as good and suspenseful as that, but it's even better. This has corruption, crooked cops, vigilantes and more questions than answers. Detective Jake Thomas has seen more than anyone should have and is ready to retire. He just has one last job and a new trainee who is bright and eager to start. Jo Calloway is excited to be a detective but Jake is moody ...more

I personally thought this was a great novel. I don't understand why people think that this book is "sophomoric and predictable" and why the cliff hanger was unnecessary. If I were the author, and I needed to crank out more books in the series and make money, I would definitely leave on a cliff hanger and write my sequel.
(If you proceed past here, I must add that it gets slightly off-topic to my review; proceed if you wish)

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. When I found out this writing team was going to be bringing us another series of mystery, crime and suspense, I couldn’t contain myself and this book did not disappoint. Jake is ready to move on, forget it all, turn in the badge, retire and start a fresh life, only to be handed a new case, a murder that now needs to be solved, but he’s only on the case for a couple of weeks before he’s off the force for good. Will he be able to help ge ...more

Silent Crime (Hangman #1)

Some reviews say the series is crap 🤷‍♀️

Well, I thought the first one was a brilliant read and the characters were written well. I personally Loved everything about the book.
I laughed at detectives Jake and Jo’s love/hate relationship at the beginning and the way Jo put Jake in his place from the off...I neeeeeeed so badly to read Hangman #2, even if it's just to see how their relationship ends up. Murders meh, love yay! The serial killer's murders are somewhat grueso

I love a book that keeps me guessing. This one does that in spades. There are so many possibilities here. All of them are good and all of them are equally horrifying. Like Darek Blake before him, Jake Thomas is caught in the middle of a mess with no easy way through. I learned my lesson with the Zodiac series: no one is going to be what they appear. We have a city full of corruption and a taunting vigilante, and I have no idea how this is going to play out – or even who I should trust – but I’m ...more

Aa cop burned out by the rampant corruption and unrelenting brutality plans to retire. he is charged with training his replacement a beautiful blonde (what else)? but Jake's growing admiration and attraction for Jo, his new partner and a perplexing series of brutal murders may keep him on the job.

Jake is a likeable character with the usual cop baggage. Still, his voice seems authentic. Jo is significantly less believable. The storytelling is simplistic with clunky dialogue and shallow character

I've been on kind of a thriller kick lately, so I decided to give this one a shot. Cool cover, right? The description seemed positive, too.

That is literally the end of anything nice I have to say about this book.

Character development? Terrible. Plot? Awful. Full of every thriller cliche you can imagine with random bits of explicit information that were completely unnecessary (unless it comes up again in the later books of the series). Regardless, I was not impressed, and it is extremely doubtful

Silent Crime (Hangman book 1) by WL Knightly

I love this series’s as much as I do of WL Knightly’s Zodiac series! The characters are very likable and it makes you feel like your in the book with them. There are some grammar errors, but other then that, the story flows pretty smooth. I would recommend these books to those who like suspense. WL Knightly in my opinion is a good author and needs to be respected for her writing! I have bought the whole Hangman series’s and getting ready to read book 2

I was so excited when I found out that this amazing duo will write another mystery crime series! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Detective Jake is ready for his retirement, but the killer on his last case has different plans for him. This book will definitely capture your attention right from the start. It’s intriguing, suspenful and full of mystery. I’m already addicted and can’t wait for the next book!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

How far will some go to see justice served?
That is what Detective Jake, his trainee and soon to be replacement Officer Jo need to find out.
A deadly game of Hangman, with more questions than answers, vigilante justice, crooked cops, simmering connections, and an eerily fascinating start - woo! It's official I am hooked!
WL Knightly returns with another dark, mystery-laden, suspense wielding hotbed of crime and passion- BRING IT ON!!

Let's see- disillusioned soon to retire detective (check), young eager new detective (check), corrupt officials (check), crazed vigilante killer (check and double check). This book starts out with a bang and ends with an explosion. I loved it!! These authors have again outdone themselves and delivered an amazing suspense thriller. The story was fast-paced and the characters were so engaging. Excellent story from start to finish. ...more

Corruption is the main reason the Hangman goes around and tortures the guilty ones. Why is not found out yet. The story is not bad, but the police procedure is kind of a joke. A chief of police with a forensic team and 1 detective who wants to retire because of his nightmares. Doesn’t help that the new detective who should replace him is a beautiful girl ......... A serial killer and no task force ?

Overall the storyline is impressive. But there were so many problems that took away from the reading. The swearing used was pointless and unnecessary. The writing itself seemed amateurish. The characters had some good development to them, making them interesting. I hate though when a writer chooses not to end the book and instead makes it so there is a sequel to continue the same story they started in the first book.
