but why am i still perplexed? 🥲
really appreciate that there were illustrations because without them i’d be hella lost. made some big topics like vascular neuroanatomy very approachable- will definitely be referring back to those sections!! had to read some sections twice but i don’t think that was a book problem, moreso a how do you make neuro simple issue? some things are meant to be complex

It helps me to imagine the vasculature of the brain and deficits in each lesion.
I thing it's a good entrance to go deeper in the anatomy of CNS.

The rating spreadsheet I use doesn't really work for nonfic, so it's back to my old [shrug emoji] throws out a star rating method.

Very helpful, but title is misleading. Turns out there is nothing ridiculously simple about neuroanatomy.

Ok fine so this is more of a joke but it really is the only book that I'm currently reading (or supposed to anyways). If only this website had the option for my massive notes packet for neuroscience then that would be on here as the only true thing that I am currently reading.

Better for the clinical years than the pre-clinical years, although I used it during both. I found this to be most useful as a refresher during rotations.

it is not a textbook. it's a nice book for starting or reviewing concepts. the authors make an effort to provide simple and meaningful clinical insights about the brain. but it does not replace a textbook (and it's not supposed to do so). keeping thatn in mind I strongly suggest it to anyone studying neuroanatomy

I originally got this for medical school, but unfortunately never got to use it for that purpose. I am however reading it to help a little with my neuropsychology. The author tries to be funny and sometimes it works better than others. Still not a bad book. I do believe I have an older edition as there was no CD Rom for mine. Might have made it better.

Good refresher, but felt there were some unexplained/less clear aspects that made it more difficult [eg decussation and synapse levels] than it had to be

Amazing book for both, the students reading neuroanatomy for the first time and those who want to touch base again. A very easy read, with concepts explained in a qiurky manner, makes sure you never forget your basics.

This book lives up to its name!
The author manages to take a subject that is often complex and present it in a way that simplifies it to the main concepts. I found it very helpful for really gaining an understanding of the structures in the brain, which I could build on as I learned about pathologies. The drawings and explanations related to the brainstem were particularly helpful, providing mnemonics after concepts were presented.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone - like me - who struggled a bit to grasp the structures of neuroanatomy as presented in other textbooks or lectures.

This isn't exactly a book you read. It is a study guide helping you to grasp neuroanatomy. The anatomy is grouped together to help you remember. Silly drawings and puns are added as they cite a study saying silly is easier to remember. Useful to students who need to memorize neuroanatomy. I refer to it over and over.

A quick read, offers some good mnemonics. I wished it was more systematic since it tends to jump around topics from time to time. As a basis for neurology I think it should be more detailed as I'll need some other literature to cover the topics that this book skipped.

This book gives an excellent review of all of the some clinical concepts in a way that is easy to understand. I would recommend using it alongside an anatomy text book until you learn all of the structures that he referenced though.

It's a simple add-on to "heavy" textbooks on neuroanatomy, that offers some nice mnemonics and creative presentation of typical anatomical pearls. Unfortunately, too limited to get away with it only, even for non-neurologists.

I understood more about Neuroanatomy reading this book than reading the entirety of Carpenter.

It's that good.

Although it's supposed to be a side-kick, but this book was really "clinically" helpful. Emphasis on clinically.

Used this to study for PT NCS exam. It's down and dirty, no fluff of the nervous system. This is the stuff that you really need to know clinically. A good reference to keep on the shelf too!
