Blockchain technology offers tremendous hope and promise to drastically improve data transparency and data sharing, as well as reduce the risk of a central point of failure for corporate, government, and private entities. But there is also significant hype around blockchain that has been driven by the bubble in cryptocurrency investments and people who don't want to miss out on the next wave of new technology. What will determine the future of blockchain - the hope or the hype? This is the subject tackled by the world's leading financial futurist, Jason Schenker, in The Promise of Blockchain.
I cane away with a better understanding of blockchain technology
I’ll be honest, I had no idea what blockchain and cryptocurrency is. I have heard the terms a time or two here recently but I still wasn’t sure what it was or how it was useful. I got this book to see if I could clear the mud and help me understand what it really is. The author clearly explains exactly what blockchain and cryptocurrency is and exactly how it works, he used charts and images to further help those like me who know just the basics about technology. I found it to be extremely helpful and informative. The information was easy to process, the author puts everything into layman’s terms perfectly and I came away with a a much better understanding of both the pros and cons of blockchain technology.
The Author intends for this novel, The Promise of Blockchain, to be the comprehensive go-to that he feels the market is lacking. I would say that this novel goes far in reaching that goal. Before I started reading, I had no idea what a blockchain was. So I was very happy to see it clearly defined along with three other key terms on page 2 of chapter 1. I find the whole concept to be very intriguing: blockchain was initially built because of a need with bitcoin (which is money technically based on nothing if I understood that correctly) and it just grew from there. I love to learn about how technology is advancing so I enjoyed reading this. I will say that while it was an easier read than I anticipated, it still took a couple times of rereading some points to really grasp the material. I do appreciate the flow of the novel.
