A genie just wants a chance to grant a wish to the frog who accidentally let him out of his lamp—meanwhile, the frog just wants to be left alone. A witch is tormented by the cheerful (and awful) singing of a persistent bard, but when she finally snaps and turns him into a rock, he just keeps on singing—somehow the power of terrible music overcomes all magic. A wizard wants ...more

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this!

I cannot say how much I loved this book! All of the stories were fantastic and the artwork is gorgeous!!! There were four new fairy tales" Hop, Hop, Wish, The Singing Rock, The Sorcerers New Pet, and Ogreish Art. I really can't pick which one was my favorite, I loved them all! I don't want to give away what any of the stories are about (although you may have a guess form the titles) so this review will be pretty short. If you are a fan of fairy

This is a really visually engaging book. The colors are so bright and cheery, and the illustrations are well suited to the tone of the stories, which are short, easy to follow, and fun. I will be looking out for other books-- especially illustrated ones by this artist.

A collection of short graphic novel fairytales.

The first story in this collection is “Hop Hop Wish” in which a frog accidentally frees a genie, and the genie doesn’t know how to please this new master. There are definite elements of this story that are fractured parts of Aladdin and Frog Prince. The contentement of the frog and preference for simple pleasures is refreshing. The second story is “The Singing Rock” about a witch who can’t stand any kind of music and is notorious for turning everyo

A comic-style collection of four fairy tales explores a world of magic and mischief with bright, bold illustrations and humor for young and older readers alike. The stories include a frog attempting to escape a genie determined to grant wishes, a musician who annoys a witch so much that she turns him into a rock, a conniving wizard whose own devious plan backfires, and a painter who discovers the beauty in the world. Each is approximately 20 to 30 pages in length and is, true to the title, brand ...more

This was a cute little graphic novel intended for children, but I believe that adults, too, would enjoy the story lines.

The book contains four short tales similar to classic fairy tales but with a twist to them.

Hop Hop Wish is about a frog who hops on and therefore rubs a magic lantern which produces a genie who wants to grant him 3 wishes.

The Singing Rock is about a musician who always sang and annoyed a local witch.

The Sorcerer's New Pet tells of a sorcerer who is envied by the King's chief

I wanted to read this book because I was hopeful it would be something my daughter would enjoy as she loves reading fairy tales together. I personally found this book quite intriguing when seeing it because it is rare to find a book that isn't just rewrites or reprints of Anderson's, Grimm's, or Aesop's tales. While I truly enjoy the classics, finding something my daughter and I have never heard of or read is a wonderful prospect. The art is this book is not only beautiful but very unique which ...more

Thank you #netgalley and #firstsecondbooks for the free e-book!

This ARC was provided for review, but in no way affects the following impartial and unbiased review:

Pros: Lovely and vibrant color palette. Super cute illustrations and character concepts. PoC leads. Wholesome short stories with interesting endings. Honestly, a great introduction for middle-graders to graphic novels.
Cons: Unfinished ending to the first short story, which coincidentally was the one I was most invested in.

Graphic novel, chapter book/picture book for the Gr. 2-6 set?? Not sure how to describe this one but I loved it! Bright funny and also gorgeous illustrated stories tell 4 slightly twisted fairy tales that are joyful hoot.

Perfect for the child who will appreciate the humor. I think middle school kids would love it if they'd be brave enough to look past the young appearance of the book. Besides being wonderful fun, this would make a GREAT writing prompt.

This was a cute book! I loved the beautiful illustrations, the new stories, and the morals behind each fairytale. I had heard about this book on NetGalley and then had seen it talked about on Instagram - so happy that I got a chance to read it!

I look forward to more GNs by this author and illustrator ☺

I expected there to be a little more to this set of brand new fairytales. It was very visually appealing and the stories were fine, but something was missing for me.

All these stories were funny, fresh, and enjoyable! The pictures were bright and animated, and overall I think this would be a great addition to the "tried-and-true" collections out there. ~ Emilee

The stories didn't do a whole lot for me, but Simini Blocker's art always brings me joy!

This is a very cute collection of Fairy Tales that I really enjoyed reading. I have been waiting for this since I first heard that it was going to come out. It did not disappoint.

This was a very cute book of new fairy tales, I especially loved The Sorcerer's New Pet but they were all very cute and creative stories. My only complaint was that the speech bubble font was a little difficult to read (the E's all looked like B's to me at first) but other than that the artwork was stunning and so was the storytelling! These are really cute and I can't wait to be able to use this book in story times!
