Fifth book in the Harlequin Intrigue six-book, multi-author mini-series, "The Curse of Raven's Cliff." And it's important to mention again, that this is a heavily connected series and the book should be read in order.

In this book, a group of international terrorists have taken the small town of Raven's Cliff by storm. Among their members is undercover agent Cole Robinson. As part of his duties to the group he must take local resident Amelia Hopkins hostage and force her and her father to complete the tasks required of them. But from the start, there is a chemistry between the two. Only Amelia thinks he's a traitor to his country, and Cole doesn't need the distraction. He's got a terrorist group to bring down.

My first thought as I started reading this book was "good grief...terrorists?" because after all this town has already been through, now they've got international terrorists causing havoc? It seemed a bit too much.

Despite that, the story was pretty good individually, but it had a disconnected vibe when it comes to the overall series. It's only connection, really, is that it takes place in Raven's Cliff and follows the line of bad luck the town is having. Otherwise, it just felt like a segregated story. Apparently Amelia is a much-loved daughter of the town, an heiress known to all and she and her father run a prosperous yacht building company....yet until this book, her name and the company are never once mentioned. And both the H/H are completely new characters. It would have been better served if Amelia had at least had her name dropped in previous books.

Again there were some inconsistencies as there have been with the other books, but since this one was so disconnected from the others, it was more of a minor thing.

I didn't mind this book so much. The storyline was interesting enough, and the romance was okay. I just wished it had fit more into the flow of the series.

Wow I HATED this.
This book is. DEEPLY problematic. 97% of Modern-day (this book was written in 2008 and boy has the landscape changed in the year of our lord 2024) Dark Romance writers literally would not do the things this book (and it sounds like the next one) are going to do. Like holy shit. The whole thing is specifically about being an all-caps PATRIOTIC AMERICAN who LOVES AMERICA and MUST stop the international terrorist org who is planning to "cripple the American economy" by blowing up a few boats. I just. wow. It was REALLY REALLY into the Patriotism and bravery and FREEDOM. She is just, so BRAVE and PATRIOTIC and he is hot because he's a PATRIOT, she can tell.
Also the epilogue to the final book? Fucking Y I K E S dude. I know it's literally called "Motive: Secret Baby" but fucking YIKES. I don't know if I want to read it anymore! This series was so fun and stupid and fun back with "With the MD...At the Altar?" and it has just been downhill since.

The night they met outside a fortune tellers booth was the beginning of lovers tale which only one day would only help them understand that being able to find love, even when your bound to lose it is far greater than never loving at all.

This was an exhilarating tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

While I refuse to give anyway any details, I will say, if you read one book separately, this may be the only one you'd come through not feeling lost on several parts of the story. Okay except for maybe the epilogue!

But that reason, it's one of my favorite stories!

Or maybe it just has to do with a handsome man in uniform??

Lol - you be the judge!

I really enjoyed this book. I got it as a gift and didn't know that it was a part of a series. I was a little confused about one or two things but I still enjoyed the book. Very unique plot line for me. Terrorists have taken over the town, and their base is Amelia's home. And one of the terrorists is actually an under cover agent. And to protect her he has to sleep in her room, which makes things very interesting. Had a cute ending. I went back and read the series from the beginning and loved them all.
