Danton is a 1200-year old vampire, blinded by the Medieval Church, who makes his life as a paranormal romance novelist. He writes about a vampire detective and “pretends” to his fans to be a vampire himself. But book sales are down because he has been without love for over 30 years and just doesn’t have that spark of romance left in him. Until he meets Kevin, a disbelieving young man, desperate for a job, who is brought in by Danton’s agent to try to lighten up his life and heat up his prose.
This was a really interesting vampire tale and when Danton began telling his backstory I got completely absorbed in it and would read the hell out of that thing as a full length novel.
If you’re coming into Interview with the Kevin looking for romance, you may find that this is not your jam, but chuck that out the gothic window of Danton’s mansion, because Danton’s story itself was a great read. I didn’t feel like I got too strong of a handle on Kevin, and this was not really his tale to tell. I would have liked more of him though and if I had gotten as much dimension out of him as I did Danton I would be throwing more hearts at this one.
It seems that Kevin may be the key to Danton getting his mojo back and I liked reading about Danton getting pulled out of his comfort zone by the effervescent Kevin. Danton’s natural snobby side (from literal centuries of experience and knowledge) were challenged by Kevin and I appreciated how the author wrote those scenes. While Danton wasn’t necessarily wrong about the great differences in intellect and experience between them, he didn’t come off as intentionally arrogant, rather more like he was looking for an excuse to not let the young man get too close.
Getting too close brought back the potential for emotions and Danton found those way too painful given his heartbreaking history, but I don’t think Kevin is one to give up. While the ending was a little abrupt and I can’t really call it an HEA or even an HFN, it did read to me like there could be a lot more story to tell and I would definitely be interested in reading it from both the MC’s perspectives.

Halloween vampire short story! What’s not to love?!. Danton is a 1200 year old Vampire. He was born a French peasant and was turned in to a vampire by someone who tried to kill him. He was then blinded in a civil war and has lived ever since in America as a romance author. In recent years his reviews have all pointed out how poor his love scene writing is and his obvious disconnect with romance.
‘Who was this strange, miraculous young man?’
His agent and friend Diana just wants him to find love and puts out an advert for an assistant with benefits. And along comes Kevin. I loved Kevin! He’s sweet and nice and funny and is initially dubious of Dantons ‘vampire persona’. But Danton sets about proving it to Kevin and in the process finds the two of them have an intense bond and connection that allows Danton to momentarily see the world through Kevin’s eyes.
“You magnify my senses. Draw me into you. Like a sponge…soaking up my consciousness.”
Kevin manages to convince Danton to come with him to a gay bar! This scene was just hilarious and I loved the part where Kevin nips to the toilet and Danton inadvertently activates their bond. So funny.
This story is about Danton, a gay vampire that is a M/M romance author. He was born to a poor, French family in a time that being gay was not spoken about. After meeting a man, he was left for dead and buried only to wake 3 days later as a vampire. After joining a religious cult later in life, where he feels like he finally found a place where he belongs and is treated like royalty, he is tortured and left blinded when the cult comes under siege.
Danton met a man and fell in love, but he sadly died of AIDS after 5 years together. Since then Danton refuses to feed or love from men. Since he has not made love to a man in so long, his readers are finding that there is a disconnect to his writing recently and his ratings are falling drastically. His agent, Diana prompts Danton to find a personal assistant. This is where Kevin comes in to the story.
Non-believing of Danton's vampire status makes for a pretty interesting meeting between the pair and in the process of showing his true self to Kevin, the two for a bond that allows him to see through the other mans eyes.
I really liked this short story, the scene between Kevin and Danton in the gay club was amusing and they have really good chemistry between them. I liked the plot of the story, was simple but interesting and kept my attention throughout without flinging to much at you in a short amount of pages.
3.5 stars - More serious than I was expecting with this title, but I really enjoyed the writing. Light on the romance, it's more of a reflecting back and deciding to take another chance on immortal life, sort of. I see there's a follow up story, I'll have to check that out.
Danton is holding interviews to find the perfect male assistant. His agent who is aware of his secrets has been assisting him in weeding out the not so great applicants. The last interview is scheduled for Halloween.
If you hit it off, maybe he can be your intro back into the gay world. Maybe more…
Danton also writes paranormal romance. He has sworn off sexual adventure for over 30 years. Especially after he lost the one man he loved to aids. Which could be one reason why his books aren’t doing so great. When Kevin walks into his study he is honest about what he is, but Kevin doesn’t believe him at first. So Danton tells Kevin his whole story.
I had a lol moment at the True Blood comment from Kevin. And when they were at the gay bar Danton discovered something unique that involved Kevin. Their chemistry was off the charts hot, Danton had a hard time controlling his urges and what Kevin said next floored him.
This was a great read with some hot chemistry and humor thrown in. I really liked Danton’s agent she was a feisty thing. And Kevin was perfect for Danot, just what he needed. If your looking for a fun short read than 1-click and get started today.
