''Hunted'' is the second novel in the new Sam Berger/Molly Blom series, written by the Swedish literary and crime fiction giant, Jan Arnald (Arne Dahl is his nom de plume). Unfortunately the book is worse than the first one in the series (titled ''Watching You'') and far away from the excellent ''Intercrime'' series books that made Dahl a superstar in Scandinavian crime fiction. I'm not claiming that this is a non-readable crime novel but it lacks both in terms of plot and suspense that were pre

Inland is the second book in a series about police inspector Sam Berger and Molly Blom. The book picks up where Utmarker ended. When Sam Berger wakes up, he is surrounded by all things white. He doesn't know where he is but then he sees Molly Blom next to his side. They find themselves in the mountainous landscape of Lapland, northern Sweden, and it turns out they are both on the run for the Swedish secret service "Säpo" and later on even for the police as well.

Slightly more interesting than the terrific first book in the series because the relationship between Berger and Blom gets more complicated and the main nemesis is so believably evil. Set mainly in the center and north of Sweden. It is also a kind of homage to the E-45 highway, which (the book tells us) stretches from southern Sicily to the far north of Sweden. Dahl is a smart, insightful writers.
I needed quite some time to finish the first book in this series, but in the end it was a good read. And with the cliffhanger I was compelled to read book #2 as well. Sadly I have to say - I give in. I made it up to 13%, which amounts to 50+ pages, mind you, but still it was a total hodgepodge, no idea what was happening and frankly I didn't want to read on to make any sense of the whole thing. Sorry book but I'm done with you.

And again there is a serial killer loose. I think the ratio between serial killers in the real world and books about serial killers is about 1: 1.000.000.
Apart from that, Arne Dahl writes very well and it is exciting. Although totally unbelievable because of the serial killer part. Still a good read though. I especially like the relation between Molly and Sam. And what they go through.

Jesus. Don't. Just... don't.

The cliffhangers are almost unbearable, but the stories are great. This one includes a (memory) white-out, a black-out (electrical) and the usual assortment of police, spies and the top team of a former policeman and a former spy trying to solve a serial killer case, while on the run from everyone else.
This second book in the Sam Burger/Molly Blom series. I believe that there are to be three books in total for this series. I liked this one somewhat more than book # 1, perhaps because the ongoing story explained things more clearly than what was obvious at the conclusion of book # 1 (Watching You). Of the books that have been translated into English, I must say that I have preferred the Intercrime series featuring the A-Unit to this one. If you have not yet read Arne Dahl, I would suggest start

Hunted, Berger & Blom #2. Arne Dahl & Neil Smith. 2017/2019. iBook January 2019.
With Watching You ending with a cliff hanger, you would expect this second in the series to pick up where that left off, in a sense it does but in such a round about way it would be IMHO impossible to understand what was happening if you have not read the first book and even then........ NOT the quality of the Intercrime Series, but readable if you don’t stop. So many past connections, characters, mysteries....hard ...more

I'm pretty sure this is being sold as Hunted, here in the uk. The story seems to fit the description as described in earlier reviews.
The story is actually very good and i would have given 4 or 4.5 stars, however the translation into English is dreadful. The translation is credited to Neil Smith, however I think it should be credited to Google Translate, as it reads like the translator has just used that, rather than writing a sensible english narrative. Not as good as the first one - the plot is overly involved and character motives and drives remain obscure. Quite a bit of kink shaming, and mental disabilities are not particularly nicely portrayed. Berger, Blom, and Deer are all interesting characters, but much around them is held back to be explored in further novels, which does not help this one. All in all, not terrible, but Dahl is usually better.
Here is the second crime novel about about Sam Berger and Molly Bloom. They are not the most popular people after the last case and are in hiding when they get a new case that has ties to the past. They venture on a strange journey and endure some hard times, not sure who to trust and who to be careful of.
As good as the first one and as dark too.
