Lynn Michaels lives and writes in Tampa, Florida where the sun is hot and the Sangria is cold. When she’s not writing she’s kayaking, hanging with her husband, or reading by the pool. Lynn writes Male/Male romance because she believes everyone deserves a happy ending and the dynamics of male characters can be intriguing, vulnerable, and exciting. She has both contemporary and paranormal titles and has been writing since 2014. Her stories don’t follow any set guidelines or ideas, but come from her heart and contain love in many forms.
This light and fairly steamy opposites-attract romance between dancer Demi and musician Gavin unfolds after, much to Demi's initial protests, the college students are paired together for a class project. It's told in single POV (Gavin's) and doesn't really contain any surprises, and at only two hours, the audio is a fast listen.
Demi's a bit bossy, Gavin is smitten from the start, and they appear to be opposites but actually have a lot in common. There's a light touch of angst (misunderstanding, jealousy) and playfulness as they quickly navigate from being classmates to friends-with-benefits to admitting having all the feels for one another.
Unfortunately, the audio just didn't do it for me. Narrator Eric Umstott has a pleasant voice in general, but his accent for Demi, which is supposed to sound slightly Ukrainian, was inconsistent and sounded like an awful fake British one. I found the voice distracting, and it really hampered my overall listening enjoyment. I received a free review copy of this audio book and have left this honest review voluntarily.
Shot the Plot is a sweet college romance between two different students who are paired up by their teacher to work on a project. Instant sparks occur immediately when Gavin and Demi meet. At first it comes from an antagonistic place, but soon those feelings transform into lust and intense attraction. I found this short novella entertaining and enjoyable.
The audiobook was narrated by Eric Umstott who did a great job. I liked how he voiced the characters and I thought the audiobook production was well done.
"Shot the Plot" (2016, 2020) by Lynn Michaels is an interesting quick read about two college students—Gavin, a musician, and Deme, a talented dancer—who are forced to work together for the sake of a college project. After a very rocky start, the two develop an attraction. The book contains very explicit homoerotic scenes not for the prudish. Not my usual fare but the story entertained me, and that’s all I ask of fiction. Eric Umstott’s narration kept me engaged. Solidly recommended. At my request, I was given this free audiobook and have voluntarily left this review.
An interesting story around dance and music as two young men are paired to do a project. Deme comes off as a little self serving at first, but that didn't last, he's soon revealed as a sweetheart. I really enjoyed this short story, the basis was a great idea and made for a tale with a difference. My only complaint is the sudden and kind of unfinished ending.
This is a very sweet book that takes a great look into the life of a dancer and a musician. College level angst and young love will leave you sighing at the end of the book. I would love to see more of these two eventually, but was satisfied with the ending as it was. Very sweet and a feel good ending! I won this book in a drawing from the author.
Shot the Plot by Lynn Michaels is an interesting LBGT story about musician and a dancer teaming up for a project and ultimately falling in love. The story was rich and quirky in places with a perfect ending for the pair.
