Oliver is an elegant tuxedo cat, who is full of himself. As a matter of fact he “I love myself!”, quite often. Naughty, isn’t he? But his best friend Jumpy, a kangaroo lady, is aware that he has a soft heart and will always want to help others. The great thing is Jumpy’s pouch, which Oliver loves to ride in! He calls her his kangaroo taxi! These little bedtime stories with their lovely illustrations are great for small kids. A parent can read the text and tell the child in his own words. These animal stories have sufficient text to keep early readers happy and provide some educational value. Love you all! Meow! Flying Carpet - Once again Oliver has to rescue a princess. This time with the help of a clever flying carpet.Birthday Party - Oliver has an unexpected birthday party at his house with parrot singers.Magic Berries - Naughty Joey is eating magic berries and changes shape. The wood fairy helps out.
Now also a Romantasy author! Born in Vienna, Austria, I am now living in the paradise of Perth, Australia with my wife, two married children and three grandchildren. I worked many years in the printing industry and later for the United Nations in Vienna. My wife had been a pen-friend, whom I visited in Hong Kong and finally got married to. After an eventful life, finally retired, I began to write children's stories, had them illustrated through Odesk, narrated them myself for YouTube and finally published the ebooks on most platforms. I will publish 20 books with three stories each in English, before translating into several other languages. My dream is to see "Oliver and Jumpy" animated as a TV series.
Boy, do these two ever have imaginative adventures! First of all, Oliver is a talking, slightly egotistical, tomcat, and his best friend Jumpy is a talking kangaroo, with a son, Joey. Their homeland, Sillandia, is filled with talking animals and insects. In this selection, Oliver and Jumpy save an elephant herd; Oliver kisses awake a somnolent Princess; and Sillandia is visited by an extraterrestrial. Great delight in store for children of all ages.
What a wide variety of tales in this little book! I tried the text feature which says at the start that a double click on a Kindle text box will enlarge the text, and it works. So young readers can concentrate on the words at times. There are three more stories about Oliver the brave cat and in some of them we also have Jumpy and her baby Joey.
Oliver has to help save a herd of elephants and giraffes; he has to awaken a princess under a spell; and he has to make friends with a visitor from another planet. Nobody makes him do these good things but we understand that if he did not help these creatures and people, maybe nobody would, so it is important to help any time you can. After all in other adventures Oliver has been very glad to receive help.
Some of these stories can be a bit scary. So young readers might be better to read with Mum or Dad the first time. The pictures are bright and clear with lots going on in each one. Enjoy!
Oliver is the famous tomcat we have read about in Werner Stejskal’s previous stories in the series. He and Jumpy the kangaroo and her son Joey have had many adventures together.
Werner Stejskal has written three delightful stories in this new book. Mario Tereso (stories 40 and 42) and Maycee Ann Reyes (story 41) do a fine job illustrating. The illustrations are colorful, cute and very appealing to children. They blend well with the story line. Werner has a gem here!
Story 40, is called Elephant Heaven. The friends go to the Ghost Castle where they have had some adventures previously. What will they find this time? Behind an old door, they find elephants. The friends hitch rides. The poor elephants are not finding enough water, so Oliver, Jumpy and Joey help them find a wonderful lush land on the other side of a mountain. More elephants are there, and they greet each other (trumpet with their trunks) with joy.
Story 41 is based to some extent on the fairytale, Sleeping Beauty. Oliver goes on this adventure by himself without his friends. He out smarts a genie, a huge spider and a giant in order to reach the castle and rescue a sleeping princess. A wicked, jealous witch had put the princess to sleep with a magic spell. Only the kiss of a prince cat would break the spell. Oliver succeeds in waking the princess up with a kiss. She does not seem very grateful, but she lets her hair down ( Remember the fairytale, Rapunzel) and Oliver climbs down from the castle. Sorry, Oliver. You do not get to marry the princess.
In Story 42, Space Ball, Jumpy and Oliver are relaxing on his treehouse veranda. They see a fireball shoot across the sky and into a nearby lake. The fireball turns out to be a UFO. The aliens are from Blupisia. Blupsy, one of the aliens, says everyone on his planet is too serious, so they are looking for a place where they can relax and have fun, “laugh and be silly”. The friends take Blumpy treat-or-treating on Halloween. Blupsy stays a few days in order to learn to be silly. What fun!
This book is part of a series called Oliver and Jumpy. This particular volume has stories 40 - Elephant Heaven, 41 - Waking the Princess, and 42 - Space Ball. It is an excellent gift for parents with children under 8 as suggested by the author. The book is beautifully illustrated by Mario Tereso (stories 40 and 42) and Maycee Ann Reyes (story 41) and that is a very important plus, as its main audience will rely on the images to follow the stories, as many will not have reached the age to start reading by themselves. In "Elephant Heaven", Oliver went to Ghost Castle and finds a large elephant in the middle of a dry land, that thinks Oliver will lead him and his family to a fertile land. In their way they have to scape from wild fires and many other adventures. In the "Waking the Princess", Oliver goes on the rescue of a princess that cursed by a witch, but he has to face three challenges . Finally in "Space Ball", Oliver and Jumpy are sitting in a veranda having a cold drink when they see a fireball in the sky coming in their direction! Their visitor goes with them in a Hallowing trick-or-treating. All stories are very sweet and even touching and the characters are always showing good behavior. No violence, nothing too scary or too exciting, it will keep your toddler entertained (but not excited) during that critical bedtime period. They will love the stories and soon enough Oliver and Jumpy will be in their hearts forever.
In my kindle fire the story was presented in landscape orientation. No option to have it in portrait orientation, but this is far away from being a problem. I just thought it was worth mentioning.
Seeing the picture on the front of this book made me realize something. Although our hero Oliver is proud of his status as an "elegant tomcat" he's never seen doing that for which tomcats are famous - chasing females. Does this provocative picture mean that Oliver is going to stop having adventures with his gal-pal Jumpy and little Joey? Will he be "tom-catting around" as the old saying goes? Should we cover the kids' eyes?
Fear not, the first story is a classic Oliver and Jumpy tale. In the tradition of this oddball series, it combines nature and a bit of magic. It's a good jumping off point for a discussion about why animals migrate - weather and climate conditions and natural disasters. Of course, elephants are majestic creatures and everyone wants to help them, but riding one is not as easy as Tarzan made it look.
The second story lets us in on the secret of the romantic cover art. In a light-hearted spoof of every fairy tale ever written, "Prince" Oliver heads off on his own to rescue a sleeping princess. (A beautiful one, naturally.) Oliver may or may NOT be a prince, but his problem-solving skills are unbeatable. No monster, giant, ogre, or troll can outwit Oliver. But will he be suitably rewarded for his efforts?
In the third story, Oliver and Jumpy are reunited and we move from the romantic Middle Ages to the Space Age. What would you do if a UFO landed in your yard? Are you up for a little fun with a strange-looking alien?
As always, these stories are well-written and the illustrations are delightful. This series lets the imagination run wild. Isn't that what a picture book should do?
Oliver and Jumpy continue to have new adventures all the time. They are such good friends and enjoy helping others. Story number 40- Elephant Heaven- We find Oliver and Jumpy back at Ghost Castle. They always have fun adventures there. This time an elephant is waiting. Jumbo needed a cat to lead him and his friends to fertile land. Story 41-Waking the Princess- A mean old witch put a spell on the princess. She must have a prince cat save her. Three challenges and a kiss were the key to unlock the spell. Story 42-Space Ball- One night, a star fell to earth. Oliver and Jumpy saw it and went to investigate. Once there, they find Blupsy. Blupsy is an alien. He is lucky to have met Oliver and Jumpy because they introduce him to Halloween.
This collection would be and outstanding addition to any child's library. The characters are so friendly and helpful. The writing is spot on. I enjoy the fact each book, each story, Oliver and Jumpy meet new people. They learn about others and they teach others about themselves. Your child's imagination will be on overdrive. The stories are the right length for a nap read or bedtime read. These are perfect books to "act" out. It allows your child to become even more involved in the story. You'll be happy you invested in these books, they grow with your child.
I didn't find any issues.
I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because your littles will get such a kick out of these characters. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
I was contacted twice by the author, asking me kindly to read his book. When I saw it was free during a recent promo, I decided to give it a try.
Oliver is a dapper tomcat who lives in a tree house and Jumpy is his kangaroo friend. The two friends enjoy having fun together on any number of adventures. In stories 40 – 42, Oliver and Jumpy share their “Elephant Heaven”, “Waking the Princess” and “Space Ball” adventures.
My first impression of this book is that the illustrations are fantastic. Mario Tereso is definitely a talented children’s illustrator. Children should enjoy the colorful and detailed drawings. The second thing I noticed was the wordy text. I wondered why the author chose to use words and phrases that might very likely be over a child’s head. However, it’s certainly not a deal breaker, since parents and caregivers can always use this as an opportunity to broaden a child’s vocabulary.
The stories really are cute, and filled with imaginative and action-packed adventure that should keep children entertained.
When Oliver and Jumpy find elephants at Ghost Castle, you can be sure a fun adventure will ensue. As with all these books, the story’s simply told, easy to read aloud, and comfortable to enjoy with small children. Double-clicking on the text increases the size—a nice feature for children beginning to read, and for adults who’ve left their glasses in the other pocket.
With the elephants rescued from drought, our Sillandrian animals soon enjoy a new take on Sleeping Beauty with exciting challenges, brightly illustrated, for an illustrious cat. Watch out for spiders! Then there’s a “balmy, starry night” with suitably bright delights, plus Halloween.
The stories are short enough to read more than one at bedtime, brightly illustrated so the kids will be happy with just one, and fun enough to inspire happy questions and memories... and maybe even sleep. Another fun collection.
Disclosure: I heard it was free so I got it and I offer my honest review.
Story 40: Elephant Heaven In this story Oliver, Jumpy and Joey visit ghost castle. They find a group of elephants in a desert waiting for them to lead them to fertile ground. Oliver is up for the challenge. They encounter a grass fire and an avalanche. Will they find the land of plenty?
Story 41: Waking the Princess In this story Oliver sets out on his own to break a curse. Years before a Princess was put to sleep until a cat Prince could wake her with a kiss. However, the cat prince would have to overcome three challenges. The challenges included a genie out of a bottle, a giant and a spider. Will he be able to wake the Princess?
Story 42: Space Ball Jumpy and Joey were watching a star in the sky when suddenly it began to move. It became a fireball and landed in their lake. The next morning a spacecraft emerged from the lake. A creature came out. What do you think the creature wants? I received a copy to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
I love these adventures of Oliver and Jumpy as they are so appealing to youngsters. It's fun for me, too! Story 40, "Elephant Heaven," is about Oliver coming across a family of elephants that are in a desert-like area with little food. He's going to find a better place for them. Story 41, "Waking The Princess," is about a beautiful princess who is put into a long sleep by a jealous witch. Only a handsome cat can wake her. Story 42, Space Ball," is about Jumpy and Oliver sitting on his tree house veranda and witness a ball of fire falling through space, landing in their nearby lake. Can it be a UFO? A space ship? Who is the stranger coming to talk to them? Very exciting stories with beautiful illustrations. It's fun t read these stories over and over ... kids never tire of them.
In this book, you'll read about the environment, the fantasy and some science fiction stories!
Stories 40: Elephant Heaven This story is somewhat relatable to my country now. We're facing the strongest El Nino strike since 1997 that caused us having temperature as high as 39 degree Celsius (approximately 102.2 degree Fahrenheit) and the fire at the forests brought us haze too. Consider how pity those forests animals are.
Stories 41: Waking the Princess Very interesting retelling of famous fairy tales stories like Sleeping Beauty, the Genie of Aladdin, Rapunzel and more!
Stories 42: Space Ball Oliver and Jumpy had an visitor from outerspace and they went for trick-or-treating together! Guess who they met? Read the story yourself. :)
"Oliver and Jumpy, Stories 40-42 (Oliver and Jumpy, the Cat Series, Book 14): A cat series cartoon book with animal adventures" by Werner Stejskal is my 14th read from this author. Each series of books are meant to be read individually, and are perfect for a parent with a small child, or for a younger child 5th grade or lower that can read alone. Story 40: Elephant Heaven, deals with Oliver going into an elephant realm and helps to lead them to the promised land. Story 41: Waking the Princess, is a step beyond the story of Sleeping Beauty. Finally, Story 42: Space Ball, talks about a creature from outer space. Both my daughter and I read this book. She enjoyed it first and said "Mom you need to read the Oliver and Jumpy book. It's really, really good."
This is a fun assortment that is sure to delight every child's heart. From saving elephants to Oliver kissing a princes to meeting an alien. This three book collection has it all and I was especially impressed with the graphics of the second story.
Werner Stejskal does it again. In Oliver and Jumpy: 40-41 young readers again encounter Oliver the elegant tomcat, and his sidekick, Jumpy the kangaroo, off on more amazing adventures. Oliver and Jumpy help a family of elephants find food, and then Oliver becomes a hero as he kisses a princess and wakes her up. The final story has Sillandia being visited by an alien who wants to learn how to be silly and have fun. Enchanting little stories with fantastic illustrations, they are perfect for reading to youngsters, or allowing young readers to enjoy all by themselves. Each story offers a subtle lesson that will not be lost on your toddlers. Great bedtime reading.
As always these books are delightful - perfect to read to younger children and for older children to read on their own. The stories are paired with beautiful illustrations that are engaging and eye catching. Oliver is a fun loving character who always helps others, so the stories always have a great learning lesson for children. The book has three separate stories, all of which are fun and will engage the minds and creativity of children.
I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
The fun and exciting adventures with Oliver and Jumpy!
Wow!! What three exciting adventures these are for young kid's beautifully illustrated bedtime stories, so I would like to recommend this for five stars and for kids ages 1-10. I received this ebook for free and in return, here now is my honest review. Super job Werner and artist! By Angela
These three stories are cute and funny but they do not have anything in common with one another. My kids enjoyed reading these stories and likes the one with the alien who wanted to be silly the most. These are quick too read and the text is on a solid background so it is easy to read.
Another great set of stories by this author! This has been a series that I can actually get our grand baby to sit long enough to enjoy! Bright, lively looking pictures as you read captivates the mind of the youngster. This author is very talented and has proven so over and over in her books!
Three different stories, different challenges, and fun solutions for every one Have MOM or DAD help you with this book, so you can find the answers...enjoy Dexter Don
My favorite was the elephants. Such a great storyteller. I love these children's books. I wish I had these to read as a child. Oliver and Jumpy are just great characters.
