Reread November 2018

I think I love these two more every time I read this series.

Reread May 2018

I do love this series and I am anxiously waiting for the next one that HOPEFULLY is coming out soon. I want a Simeon of my own though...

Well, after being in a reading slump for several days, I decided to give this book a go. As with Himes' Wolfkin series, I was immediately drawn in. I mentioned in an update that I think S.J. Himes is a goddess. She has a

Absolutely, 100% loved this book. This book cemented itself in my mind, heart, soul, everything that makes a reader fall in love with books. I've already re-read it the same year I first read it and the author now has a life-long fan. Seriously, loved it that much. Officially in my top five favorite series.

Angel Salvatore has it tough - his family was brutally slain in a cultural sorcerer war ten years ago. He's picked up the pieces and focuses his life on training budding sorcerers. HIs brother

With the fourth book Mastering the Flames on the horizon I thought Id do another re-read.

Re-read 29th May - 30th May.

I think I enjoyed this even more the second time round.

Original review.

Having just read Wolves of the Black Pine and Wolf of the Northern Star and being stunned by the beauty of these books and just how much I enjoyed them. I was less impressed with the wait I now have until the next book is released and so I decided to check out other books by this

I decided to do yet another re-read of this book/series as to be up to date when I start book 4 for the first time. On thing I noticed more this time around was the insta-love, without being insta. You see, Angel and Simeon has known each other for 2 years, but that was just polite meetings. Then it takes 2-4 days into the story (after the 2 years) for the love part to start. Strange how I didn't notice it before.... That being said, this was a quick re-read; meaning

4 Stars!

Wow. I admit I didnt have very high expectations going into this, but I have to say that this was pretty darn good urban/paranormal fantasy. Full of rich world building, great characters, and incorporating many elements weve all read before - sorcery and vampires and demons abound, as well as the lovely obtuse politics and power plays that are often prominent among such supernaturals. Just color me impressed!

Angelus is a necromancer, and a very powerful one at that. Revered and feared

What an amazing series this is. I binge read all three books because once I started l just could not put them down. Himes has such a way with words, it's just phenomenal. The world building is spectacular, fascinating and days after finishing the the third book I'm still thinking about them.

Angel and Simeon are perfect for each other, both badasses in their own right but together .... a force to be reckoned with.

When I DNF two books in a row I feel like such a jaded reader. But I promised myself I wouldnt continue with books that I feel are just okay. I would have probably ended up giving this book 3 stars, and thats not bad at all. But since Ive been reading a lot of 3 star books lately, I decided to quit while Im ahead. My free time is way too valuable to me to endure 2 or 3 more hours with a book I think is only okay.

And me not liking this book is entirely my own fault since Im not a fan of

The had potential, but it had some editing issues. Wrong words, missing words, awkward sentences.

I liked the idea of the story though. What I didn't like is that I felt like I missed all the relationship growth between Simeon and Angel. The story starts after they've know each other a couple of years, and we skipped any real development straight into love declarations. I wanted to see them getting to know each other.

If you look at this as more of an urban fantasy story, rather than a romance,

I'm sucker for books with magic content. If I were to choose a favorite genre that would be fantasy. I love reading books about things out of the ordinary. My favorite TV shows are Supernatural, Heroes and TWD. This book has everything from sorcerers to vampires to little, cute dragons :) So it gets 5 stars from me.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable urban fantasy romp, told through an exciting, fresh, and well-executed plot line, and featuring an intriguing cast of supernatural characters, all of whom I was captivated and delighted by.

The Necromancer's Dance tells the story of a powerful young sorcerer named Angelus Angel Salvatore who lives in Boston and works as a teacher to young people learning to expand and control their magical abilities. As the only necromancer left in Boston, Angel is both

Still on my journey to look out at fantasy MM romances to tickle my imagination which is sometimes furiously lacking.
Well, it seems that I have quite an interest when magic is involved, less so when it comes to vampires - to the exception of my beloved Inigo from Bloodline who anyway seems not to be a typical vampirebut I digress.

In current Boston, where supernaturals have their place among humans, Angel is a special kind of and powerful magician : a necromancer. With his younger

I love this series! This power couple is one of my favorite! Simeon and Angel are mates but their relationship is written in such a way that allows for feelings to develop, the edges to be smoothed out. The shenanigans they get up to are thrilling, adventurous with a side dish of humorous sarcasm sprinkled with magic. I love side characters - Dame Mildred Fontaine is just that shade of awesome that you need in the story like this! Kicka$$ witch with mothering instincts and

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold the phone. This is a supernatural story available on Kindle Unlimited, and it doesn't blow.

I really, really liked this. I liked that Angel was realistically bad ass. He wasn't one of those guys that everyone is fawning over, but the dude could hold his own and was vicious in his resolve. I liked that Simeon was the same way: awesome, but not unrealistic. Even for a vampire...? Heh.

Re-review 10Aug2018: No change

I gave this audio a whirl again to see if I could just focus on the Boston accent part of JL's Angel performance...and yeah, no. He still sounds old. But I'm over it and if I can get my Library to pick up the audio for the next one, I listen to it anyway. If not...well, we'll see. #2 is on my list for challenges so I'll cross that bridge when/if I get to it. Because otherwise the story is still really well-told and the alternate 'verse created here is extremely

So many of my friends read this series that I decided to start too. And I truly like the story and the characters, however I have skipped some parts and have some issues.

First the good things. I really like the characters. Angel and Simeon make an interesting couple. Still, I find Simeon slightly undeveloped. We dont really know a lot about him. But the next books in this series are there to discover him better. And it will be a true pleasure to do. I like the fact that Angelus past doesnt

Wow .. this is a new introduction for me to the magical worlds of S.J. Himes. I really rally loved her other book series wolfkin saga and they are one of my favorites. Since she can write werewolves stories so good, it's no surprise to me that she's as equally good at writing vampire and magic user stories. However, I have to say that the tale of how Angel's family died is a bit complicated but I think it's because this is only book one. May be I can dig deeper into that issue in

I enjoyed this addition to the range of M/M vampire and magic novels. Angel is a necromancer and wizard, who managed to come up with a spell to defeat an army of enscorled vampires, years ago. He and his younger brother are the only members of his family to survive that battle, and the brother, Isaac, lives with his lover in an apartment across town now, prickly and distant with Angel. Angel remains solitary, teaching students and keeping his head down, and trying to mentor his brother from ...more

Wow. Color me impressed. This was a tantalizing story with real (albeit, paranormal) characters, mystery, and intrigue. I was kept guessing to the end and was surprised with the late reveals. Although I was wary at the start of a necromancer MC (seems very dark magicky), to my utter delight, I was smitten with and thoroughly enjoyed Angel. I absolutely adored Simeon and Eroch. So what kept this from being a 5-star? The editing or lack thereof. There were too many instances where I

Re-read, and still as fun as the first time around.
I love Angel and Simeon's snark and their careful courting (Simeon's especially.)
I want to smack Isaac, what a douche, and I would have liked to see Angel ask him to get his head out of his ass...

The mystery part was a wee bit thin, considering Simeon and Batiste's supposed powers and knowledge, but I could let it go, since the rest was pretty damn solid!

Love at first read ...

Angel, a necromancer, and Simeon, a vampire are not the ideal couple. After all it was vampires who murdered Angel's family. Leaving only himself and his brother Isaac. But 2 years of putting in the work of getting Angel to trust him has paid off for Simeon. Now they have to figure out who is set on killing Angel and stop them before they succeed.
Rounded down since I felt the ending was a bit anticlimactic. I wanted something more to go down with Deimos. Otherwise,
