Daniel Friebe is one of Britain's leading cycling journalists and a veteran of nine Tours de France. For the last five years Daniel has been the Features Editor of Procycling Magazine. He collaborated with cycling superstar Mark Cavendish on the bestselling Boy Racer - My Journey to Tour de France Record Breaker.
Friebe offers a great insight into East German culture, drugs in sport and the mental health of the subject. It is a pity Ullrich didn't really contribute to the story himself, although Friebe did manage to talk to many of those close to him, who offered differing opinions on his life and behaviours. Like any book of this nature I came away depressed about where the fine sport of cycling has been, and is going.
