Break free from this subtle destroyer and reclaim a life of passion and purpose. Pythons have an interesting way of killing their prey. They constrict it until it can no longer breathe, literally suffocating the life out of it. In the spirit realm Satan often works in the same way, slowly slithering his way into our lives, attempting to choke the very life out of us.
The python spirit can squeeze the joy out of your worship and prayers. It can pressure you to keep quiet when God wants you to speak up. And it can steal the peace of knowing that you belong to God. But there is a way to defeat him. You don’t have to become his prey.
The Spirit of Python helps you understand the strategies of this subtle destroyer, how he works, how to detect him, and how to break his hold from your life. You can learn
· Recognize the early warning signs that you are under attack · Find the ways you may have unknowingly given him access into your home · Bring God’s deliverance and restoration into every area of your life
We are in the middle of an unseen spiritual war. God wants to break the coils of the serpent off of your life. He wants to help you breathe again.
Jentezen Franklin (born July 21, 1962) is the senior pastor of Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia and Free Chapel OC (Orange County) in Irvine, California. Franklin is the author of New York Times best sellers, Right People, Right Place, Right Plan and Fasting. His ministry extends internationally through the televised broadcast, Kingdom Connection, which is seen on television networks such as TBN and The Church Channel
I first read this book when it came out in 2013. Back then, I knew a fair bit about the spirit of Python but nothing like what I know now. So, I wanted to see what I thought about the book three and a half years on. Did I still regard it with the same high level of esteem? In the past, I've read books that have changed my life and my thinking - books like M. Scott Peck's People of the Lie: The Hope for Healing Human Evil that, on first reading them, seemed to shine with revolutionary brilliance. A few years on, however, I realised they had not stood the test of time in my thinking - and that, for all their strengths, there was also a certain shallowness to them.
So, how does The Spirit of Python stack up after this time? Overall, it is an illuminating exposition of the tactics of this particular spirit. However, there are some issues I have with the book - almost all of which, while significant, don't really alter my overall assessment of the book. It would have been a bonus to see Franklin mention them but, in the cosmic scheme of things, it doesn't matter if he doesn't.
There is one issue, however, which is both significant and a matter for extreme caution. It relates to a story told towards the end of the book.
Here are the issues that I have with the book that, while significant, aren't problems: (1) Franklin does not recognise Python as specifically a threshold spirit. He hasn't looked at the origin of its name, either in Hebrew or Greek. (2) As a consequence, he attributes to Python many attributes and agendas that properly belong to other threshold spirits. It's certainly not essential to be able to discern which threshold spirit is which but, generally speaking, I find it helpful to do so - because that gives you a clear idea of their secondary agendas. (See God's Pageantry: The Threshold Guardians and the Covenant Defender and God's Pottery: The Sea of Names and the Pierced Inheritance for my rationale.) (3) Sometimes the spirit of Python comes across in his writing as simply another name for the Satan - thus there are schemes attributed to Python in this work that are the work of other spirits who have nothing to do with thresholds. Again, this doesn't really matter in my view. To bundle up a few other spirits with their separate agendas in the mix isn't all that problematical. (4) The differentiation between the main approaches of Python - the slow constriction and the lightning strike - isn't really brought out. The latter, in particular, needed expansion - particularly as it pertains to threshold moments in people's lives. But again, no really big deal.
All of these are quibbles rather than objections.
However, there is one serious flaw I find in the book. In failing to recognise Python as a threshold spirit, Franklin has consequently not mentioned a distinctive feature of thresholds - all of them require a sacrifice. We may not know this cognitively, but we know it in the spirit. When we come to a threshold moment in our lives, we are faced with the spirit of Python (or another threshold spirit) who demands a sacrifice - and we choose amongst four options: (1) to sacrifice someone else, (2) to sacrifice ourselves, (3) to sacrifice the honour of God or (4) to acknowledge Jesus as the all-sufficient sacrifice.
Most people choose one of the first three options. These do not overcome Python, they are choices which actually bring us into complicity with Python.
The story towards the end of the book where Franklin relates his problems (at a threshold moment) with a local bank is not about overcoming Python. It's about choosing Option 1.
This is the only serious problem I have with this book - because after all his warnings about the tactics and agendas of Python, he ironically holds up as an exemplar of right-dealing with this spirit a case of supreme complicity with it.
Excise this story (which I find the most memorable of all the anecdotes in the book) and it does have all it takes to stand the test of time.
In The Spirit of Python, Jentezen Franklin exposed the numerous strategies and tactics satan uses to hinder and harm Christian believers. He compared satan to a dangerous python. He revealed that satan loves to suffocate us and he is actively trying to squeeze the breathe of the Holy Spirit out of us. In the book, Jentezen Franklin shared there are signs that we are under the attack of the enemy, for instance, “weak prayer life”, “lack attack”, “old habits and lifestyle resurface”, and much more. He guides readers on how to break free from the attacks of satan and the strongholds he has placed in our lives. He also discussed the power of prayer, faith, and praise and how critical this is in dealing with satan and his maneuvers.
I would recommend this eye-opening book to anyone who is ready to stand up against satan and his schemes with their full armor of God on. This book is one of my favorite book that I read concerning spiritual warfare. I liked how Jentezen Franklin wrote very vividly in describing the way satan works and how he tries to choke the believer out of the amazing life God wants us to live. One of my favorite chapters is “Get the Snake Eggs Out” because this one talks about how satan uses our eyes, ears, and our mouths against us and he tempts us to fall into his destructive trap. Jentezen revealed that satan likes to lure people into looking at pornography, falling into sexual immorality, and being in bondage. I was amazed at the statistics he shared about the effects of pornography and how it controls so many people. I also loved how he shared how to silence the voice of satan and how to fight back against him. The Word of God is mightily strong in fighting against satan and this revealed to me the importance of speaking blessings and talking to our mountains. If you’re looking for a life changing book on spiritual warfare, then read this one!
“I received this book for free from The Booketeria/ Charisma House for this review”.
This book took me alot longer to finish then most. Pastor Jentenzen is bold and tells is like it is. He in no way sugar coats anything which is why I had to take this read in small doses. The python conveys the predatory attacks of the enemy. He demonstrates how to overcome these attacks and physically prepare yourself with the full armour for spiritual warfare. (All backed up with the Word, with ofcourse personal examples). I Highly Recommend.
I cannot say enough about this book! When you think about Satan wrapping his nasty coils around your mind, it is such a vivid description of what is going on in life. Let the Spirit of God help you to defeat the enemy, shake loose those chains, and get back on track to living to the fullness God wants for your life.
My family and I have been apart of Jentezen Franklin’s church Free Chapel ever since I could remember. This is the second book I’ve read from my pastor, and I highly recommend anyone who needs to wake themselves up to read this book. This past year has been so hard for so many people for different reasons. The devil truly walks among us on this earth constantly trying to blind us and deafen is with his cunning ways. He is a sneaky pest that is always trying to get in the way of God’s path for our lives. Satan is always distracting us from the bigger picture, and that is Jesus. No matter what chains you may have, whatever lies the devil has whispered in your ear, just know that Jesus can free you from anything. Whom the son sets free is free indeed! If you struggle with the python’s strong grip over your life and you need help, first and foremost please read your Bible. It is our weapon as children of God. Deepen your relationship with Jesus and please read this book. Let it encourage you and equip you on how to defeat your python
I've finally buckled down and read The Spirit of Python by Jentezen Franklin. I did read some of it before, but put it down to read other books. Today I got to sit down and read up to the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who has their life "sucked" out by the devil. This book will open your eyes from start to finish.
Worth a reread. So much going on in the spirit world we don't see that affects our relationships, our churches, and our cities. Jentezen emphasizes the importance of prayer and praise to keep a godly atmosphere in our homes and in our churches. I liked the idea of persistent prayer. Some say ask once and that's it. I agree we have to keep on petitioning our requests to God. If you are into the Christian faith and understand the difference between spirits, this is a good read.
I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend this book to anyone dealing with spiritual warfare. It provides the reader with biblical principles and biblical references to defeat the enemy. Hallelujah and Glory to God. Thanks Jentezen Franklin for writing this blessed and amazing book.
The Spirit of Python: Exposing Satan's plan to Squeeze the Life out of You by Jentezen Franklin
This book was very knowledgeable about how Satan squeezes the life of God out of us. I need to read this book again and again. Thank you pastor Franklin.
If you are struggling with things and you life seems out of control, The Spirit of Python will teach you how the enemy is choking the life out of you! Excellent and easy read!
Franklin presents a very clear explanation of how the 'python' plans to squeeze believers. He does a really compelling job of holding my interest all the way until the end of the book.
A must read for the Body of Christ. Examples given were exactly what we experience in our walk as Christians. Easy to read and great tips on how to be attentive to the tricks of the enemy.

Pastor Franklin has divided his book into three sections. Section One: God Reveals A Deadly Enemy, Section Two: The Python’s Plan To Squeeze The Life Out Of You, Section Three: No Longer His Prey! This is one of the most fascinating exposes I have ever read. Everyone should read this book. If you have ever found that you feel that your spiritual life is drying up or wasting away then perhaps it is being crushed out of you and you just didn’t know it. I believe that this book should be read a number of times and then put on a shelf where it can be referred to over and over. It is also a great gift for friends and family so that they, too, can learn about the spirit of python and get rid of him

Pastor Franklin presents a book in which he compares that old serpent, Satan to a writhing python who seeks to squeeze the spiritual life out of believers. His use of the python does convey the guile, strength and predatory nature of Satan. The author spends a significant part of the book laying out the signs of spiritual attack, closing the python's access to one's life and home, and how to bring deliverance and restoration into one's life. He explains that Satan the python wants to choke, silence, stop praise, limit one's life and distract us from our faith walk. One also is taught to break the coils of bondage and take up the armor of God to fight the old serpent. This instructional book of life and freedom is easy to read and will impact one's life. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to all seeking more knowledge about spiritual warfare and breaking free of evil's bonds.
This book has blessed me TREMENDOUSLY. I have what Pastor Franklin mentioned in the last chapter"The Wind From Elsewhere" a solution to my feelings of depression, worry, anxiety etc. a refreshed revelation of God!!. I recommend this book to ANYONE who's going through a spiritual drought in their lives. After reading this book I realize, The Spirit of Python is real but can be conquered with the help of the Holy Spirit. A must read.
One of the best Christian non-fictions I've read. It brought a message that I really needed to hear and that transformed my life and relationship with God. It delivered a hard and true message, judging my sin without being condescending to me as a person or as a child of God. It managed to be real and down to earth and very spiritua as welll. It said everything it needed to say, nothing more and nothing less. And with a beautiful language as well, this pastor is not only a great pastor but also a great author which is saying a lot. Everyone need to read this book now!
After about 1,5 years I finally finished this book. It was so challenging, that every chapter was a lesson learned, that needed time to sink in. Pastor Franklin wrote a very practical book, that's why I love it. I have learned what it means to declare things over my life and how worship will break the python's strongholds. It's a very good book!
I'm just starting to read it. My pastor has encouraged all of us get the book and read it. What I have read so far in the first chapter . I can see that I have a problem with the spirit of Python . Being tired, loss of focus. thank you Apostle Mike for getting me to read this book.
