This charming book introduces young readers to something out of the ordinary, unusual pets. The first part of this book uses photographs and text to describe the care ball pythons need. Review: Bashful Ball Pythons, is a great informational/non-fiction book. It gives the reader information and facts about ball pythons, while also having a story about Stacy who adores her pet snake Pete. I liked this book because it is factual, yet it also incorporated a story that would make those who are weary of snakes a little less fearful. Overall, it is a very easy read and would be a great book to read to a class.

Content Areas:
I would personally use this book for science. Especially when teaching a class about the differences between mammals, reptiles, etc. But along with developing reading skills, you could use this book with students who genereally don't care to read, or who enjoy reading specific books that are factual or about animals. I feel this story kind of incorporates a little of both, you get the cool facts that students might find interesting, but also an actual story with illustrations to make it fun. It appeals to both kinds of readers.

Comprehension:

Q: Why do ball pythons tuck their head in the middle of their "ball?"
A: When ball pythons are afraid they curl up into a ball, and tuck their head in to protect themselves.

Q: Where is the ball pythons natural habitat?
A: Usually African Savannas and grasslands.

Q: What does a ball pythons diet usually consist of in the wild?
A: Lizards, birds, mice, and other small animals.

Wonders:
1. When you have a pet snake, do they try to bite you?
2. How do snakes eat animals that are so much bigger than them?
3. What does a snake feel like?
