Shades of gray meets black and white and results in color.
Thirty years ago, the Zuvgran released a virus that killed most Svesti females and rendered the remainder infertile. The Svesti initiate first contact with Earth when their scientists discover that humans and Svesti can interbreed. Humans may be able to save the warrior species that has been protecting Earth’s region of space for a century.
Emmy is just trying to stay out of jail. She’s been ordered to hack Svesti technology and bring back everything and anything that will advance her country’s plans. She pushes limits to push people away.
Devik is intelligent, strong and sexy with an unshakable foundation of right and wrong. He's also the head security officer on the space cruiser.
Devik is the second book in the Svesti Fated Mates series with a HEA and can be read as a standalone, although it is recommended that the books be read in order for the best experience.
Devik is the second book of the Svesti Fated Mates series, and it takes place almost simultaneously as the first book with Devik and Emmy being the main characters. Initially there is a lot of overlap, in which Martin glosses over some of the early interactions already experienced from Talia's perspective in Vared. While it's understandable to want to make the books less repetitive, the way it was done makes this book harder to read as a standalone book. It might have been better to start this book a little bit later with a quick recap to catch new readers up to speed. The traitor's sections are almost word for word the same from Vared. Instead, it would have been nice to see a little more of the traitor actually working towards his treachery, such as moving cameras and placing traps. Doing this would create more variety for readers working their way through the series.
Besides the overlap, my main complaint is that we don't actually get to know Devik much at all. We are told he is all "black and white" in a single conversation between him and Emmy, but we never really see him acting with a strict code of ethics or obeying the exact letter of the law. In fact, he flagrantly goes against his orders by engaging in a romantic relationship with Emmy. I would have preferred to see Devik and Emmy working together but arguing about how to achieve their goals that further illustrated their differences. For example, while looking for the traitor, perhaps Emmy wanted to use the com system to track movements of suspects over a period of time, but Devik refuses as that goes against Svesti privacy law. While trying to find a happy medium, Devik learns that breaking the rules is not always bad, and Emmy learns that following the rules can still be enjoyable. We just never get those kind of interactions between the two of them. While their relationship is enjoyable, and Emmy's shades of grey ethics is fairly well established, Devik's personality is never fully explored outside of the bedroom.
As in the first book of the series, the relationship between the human women truly elevates this book from other romance series. Martin does an excellent job writing believable interactions and dialog between side characters that give the world a little more depth and meaning. I just would have liked a little more variety in the first half of the book with more emphasis in establishing Devik as a character.

For so many reasons, I loved ‘Vared,’ the first book in this series. The fantastic world it created, the alien species, and the adventure story that brought the couple together kept me reading it all in one session. The fascinating intrigue and political meddling left me on a cliffhanger, and I was dying to know what happened next.
But Devik goes backward to the same starting point as the first book and retells the same plotlines from the point of view of a new couple, Devik and Emmy. Even though the characters are lovely, forcing the reader to repeat events without moving forward with the species’ political plot line takes away from the love story.
Repeating time and plot points must be very carefully handled. I can only think of the movies ‘Groundhog Day’ and ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ with Tom Cruise to illustrate how to do repetition correctly. Both showed time loops, but instead of repeating scenes, they progressed the character’s development through new experiences, pushing the plot forward. Not doing that was this book’s Achilles heel. It covered the same experiences in Book 1, ‘Vared,’ with no variation. It was two steps back, none forward. No new answers are uncovered. We’re left with a new love story that sounds too similar to the one in Book 1.
I’m anxious and invested in knowing what happens starting the day after both these books end. I love the description of the species, the interactions with humans, and the potential of where this story could go. Unfortunately, this book was a pretty distraction from the main event. If the next book also goes back in time with a new couple and continues to offer no new information, I’ll skip it and wait for book 4 or 5 or whichever continues the plotline.
Wavy Martin is a lovely writer with excellent writing skills and knows her way around world creation. I want more of that and am holding my breath until she delivers. I’ll still read anything she writes.

Solid - Alien boy falls for human girl that was gifted to his people by her less than on the up and up government - romance. Devik is serious and a Black or White kinda Svesti. Emma on the other hand finds and thrives in the shades of grey in between. This book had medium angst but if you’ve read the first it won’t really matter.
I can seen how this series could be read out of order but I think It’s better after the first. I though the books taking place at the same time would be to samey-samey but it’s not, I liked having a solid idea where the story was going and looking for more clues and new information. Kinda like a reread of a novella that had been fleshed out into a novel, loads of new stuff and differing perspectives. I'm not sure how I'll feel reading it for a third time if the authors notes are anything to go by.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t getting antsy for more details regarding the mystery and conflicts in the book. I totally get that the author is bring strong armed by the characters but sheesh. I'm crossing my fingers that the third book will give me a bit more of the story. I WANT MORE.
Overall, the book is well balance between steam and story, I just really want more of the overarching story now.

I discovered this series through an ARC website and I'm so glad I did. This is the second book in the series and while you don't necessarily need to read them in order I do recommend it because they happen at the same time just with different characters some events that happen in the first book you experience in this one, just from the point of views of Emmy and Devik. I don't know what it is about Emmy but is my favourite out of all the women chosen as from Earth, maybe its the fact that she calls them "mate" because she knows that it bugs Devik. I enjoyed this book so much it did not disappoint. Emmy is such an interesting character, guarded because of her past yet strong and able to think on her feet. She is the perfect match for Devik! So well written it just flows so well and is an easy read. The mystery of the first book is continue throughout this one as well leaving you with more questions of who it is that is working against the goals of the Invictus(the Svesti ship) I have my guesses and I can not wait to continue the series and find out not only all the secrets of this unknown narrator of those pop chapters but also the fates of the remaining members of the crew of the Invictus and their new human members because I love them all.
Devik is book 2 in the Svesti Fated Mates series. Devik and Emmy were both interesting characters. Devik is best described as a golden retriever boyfriend crossed with a Dom. I know that sounds dichotomous but that's the vibe. Emmy is a hacker with major self-esteem and abandonment issues. This book was less "fated mates" because the focus was more on trust in the relationship which was nice.
My issue with this one was similar to book 1. Reading about the constant sabotage by the "betrayer(s)" got even more boring because we had already seen all of it since the both books are happening at the same time from different perspectives. My other issue was the names. I don't remember having an issue remember names in the first book but the author switched back and forth between first and last names of the Svesti through most of book 2 and I had no idea who was being talked about half of the time. There is a glossary of names in the back but with consistency in name usage that would not have been necessary.
I'm still moving on to book 3. :)

I enjoyed this book much better than the first book in the series, Vared.
This book takes place basically simultaneously as Vared and the issues I had with that book were mostly the story jumping all over the place and not being resolved, and since I expected that it made this book easier to enjoy.
In this story, Devik, the technically experienced Svesti, falls for Emmy, the hacker from Australia. They work together to help Vared and Talia and work on finding the mysterious bad guy from the first book.
Because we had already heard about all of the plot in Vared, this book was free to be mostly about Devik and Emmy's relationship. Emmy has been hurt by many of the people she's come into contact with in her life and is wary about being serious with Devik.
I don't know that I am invested enough in the mystery or other characters to keep reading the series, but I am glad that Devik turned out better than its predecessor.

This second book is written from Devik & Emily's eyes. Much of what happen in the first book is revisited. I found this to be very interesting and entertaining. I wasn't sure I would enjoy the book but I did very much.
Devik seemed to develop eyes only for Emily from Australia. He knew it was not suppose to be his place to be part of the choosing, but he just couldn't help himself with Emily. He still developed feelings for her.
Emily was one who doesn't trust easy. Everyone leaves her and she has been hurt a lot growing up so she never lets anyone get close to her until now. Emily found Devik quite yummy!
Does she let Devik get close? How close and why? Will Devik & Emily become True Mates as Devik ask Emily to be with him? Or, do they become Fated Mates? Read the book, it's worth it!
I recommend this book for those who wants an entertaining book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout for an honest review and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Hacker Emmy Norton has been tasked by her government after a little persuasion to join other human females as emissaries to the Svesti home world.
She is to infiltrate their technology and report back to Earth. But without fail head security officer aboard the Svesti Space Cruiser, Devik Tolvex becomes an obstacle to that plan, because fated mates will not be denied!
I enjoyed this second book in the series that weaved together another exciting adventure of steamy passion, intrigue, action and a well written narrative livened by fascinating characters into one scrumptious read.
Can’t wait for the next book!

When book one starts from the human perspective, this book gives some insights to the svesti world. The mfc and mmc are different so there is some overlap in the story of book one because they fall in love around the same time and live in a spaceship during that time but they experience different things. The prologue explains this in a hilarious way. Emmy is deceived by her government to participate in a choosing at the homeworld of the svesti. Fortunately she can explain that this is not what she signed up for and she can use her hacking skills to help the svesti on board to search for a traitor. And it does not hurt to be partnered with Devik while doing that. Their desire results in an affair and more. While there are some steamy scenes the main part is about Emmy and how she became who she is now and which difficulties she had to overcome. There is also a background story meandering throughout the books This makes it fun to read and not some me Tarzan you Jane type of book.

Well written, full of intrigue, love, drama, steam, great storyline and plot. This book takes place at the same time as book 1 - with Vared and Talia. It is a good work to be done as humans and aliens join together to find out who the traitor is. The male aliens are all hot which the human women like , they are treated so well by them. The interactions are hot, steamy scenes at times. Then characters from book 1 and 2 are delicious and so right for each other. Just needed a little more for Emmy and Devik as this is their story. Can't wait for the next book in this series. Would recommend to others.
I am an ARC and leave this unbiased, honest review.
This is the next book in the series and takes place directly where the first book left off on a cliffhanger. The book can be read as a standalone but I recommend they be read in order. I enjoyed Emmy and Devik's story, opposites do attract lol. The world building is really good and the writing is smart. The only thing I didn't like in this book is the repetition of book one, it's a bit much but useful if you haven't read book one. Recommend highly if you like fated mates and alien romances. Can't wait to read the next book!

I like that this book runs though the same timeline as the first book. Filling in some of the missing information that was needed. The interactions are once again top notch. And feel like completely new characters, unlike some other book series that seem to have the same characters over and over. This book was more of a slow burn than the first. I enjoyed our main characters working through their individual issues to make aa solid relationship.

Devik and Emmy Amazing story, Devik is the security officer só he has a very strick rigth and wrong way off living until he meets Emmy, One if the humans they got from earth to help save their Race. She is everything that he isn't but She doesn't ser how wonderfull She is and he makes it his mission. Emmy is a hacker só her life is pretty in the grey zone but Devik helps her to BE more on the rigth side and he is also going eeeoer in her heart and She doesn't do serious... Or does she? She hás a lot of trust Issues from her past but Devik is a warrior and never gives up. Amazing!
So awesome!!! I love this series. Devik and Emmy are what each other needed in all ways - personal and professional. They complemented and completed each other. Their story was well told and intertwined with Vared and Talia’s. Devik and Emmy’s connection was palpable from the start, which made their intimacy so hot and their love beautifully unveiled. The plot and twists kept the pages turning and continues to add so much depth to this series. Just all around well done.

This book had fewer lectures than book two but repeated because it occurred at the same time. The pacing got better as I got into the book and the characters. I love the camaraderie between the earth women and their willingness to help the aliens. The interpersonal relationships were natural and mostly ignored their origins….except the sexiness of the males. WOW! I loved this couple and can’t wait for the next book. I received a free ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.
I am loving this series and frankly cannot wait to read the next book, "Ash'n." These Svesti warriors are chivalrous, protective and respectful of women. The female characters are smart, which is a must for me to award a 5 star rating. If you like paranormal, alien and Terran books, you will definitely want to read this series. The first book is "Vared."

This was okay. A lot of the information is given to the reader via conversations that the characters have among each other. The reader learns about it after it happens off screen. The action that does happen is quickly over with, so there can be more conversations. Okay overall but somehow too much and not enough.

This was a well written addition to the series that takes place simultaneously as book one (Vared and Talia). This is Devik and Emmy's story. She's forced to try and hack into their systems and Devik keeps getting in her way ;) He isn't supposed to be part of the choosing, but yeah, he can't keep his eyes off of her. Lol! Expect a reading ride full of intrigue, mystery, drama and steamy romance. I'm looking forward to the next book to see how things continue to unfold :D
This story coincide with the book , Vared. This is Emmy and Devik story. Emmy is a computer wiz, intelligent, full of good ideas. Devil is the security officer that is tasked at keeping the human women safe. Their attraction is off the charts. There's danger, adventure and steam with a sexy alien male. Very entertaining.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an ARC of this book
I think Wavy did an excellent job of writing a story that works in line with the first book. There are places that goes over some of the same thing but from a different perspective. I enjoyed how Emmy and Devik both had to learn and grow emotionally. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I found book 2 held my interest more than book 1 in this series. The storyline is intriguing, but I, personally, find the author’s writing style isn’t what I usually enjoy. That said, I will keep reading as I wish to see what happens I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This story is full of action and a touching romance. It takes place parallel to the first book, which gives it extra depth. I found both Emmy and Devik to be wonderful characters and was invested in their relationship.
I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Great read! I loved Emmy as a hacker with Devik as security on the ship working together. I also love when a woman knows what she wants and goes for it. This was a great follow-up to the first novel and I'm looking forward to the next.
I like the story but I am not a fan of so much of it being covered in the last book. Like a lot. It feel a bit cheated. And bored. I skipped a lot of it. I might have to stop reading the series. Not sure yet.
I continue to enjoy the characters and storyline in this series. It was good to get to know Emmy better and to follow what was happening to her along the main time line. Going over the same time period as the first book means there aren't that any unexpected twists in this story
Excellent second book. While much is repeated from book 1 it's told from the perspective of a completely different couple which makes it enjoyable to read despite a few parts seeming repetitive. Because u get another viewpoint it fleshes out the series plot In greater detail making it even more realistic and believable. It's great also having all the same characters again with more interaction. The story is very drama filled, exciting, and emotional with tons of spice, sensitive handling of real life abandonment issues, lies, betrayal of government officials, trust, adaptation and so much more. A thrilling BJ ook which grabs your attention and holds u captive. I highly recommend and while it can be a stand alone it's much better to read in order for full character effect. I received an arc copy from book sirens and this is my honest voluntary review.
Very spicy sci-fi romance! Fated mates and danger… intrigue, adventure and suspense.. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is such an enjoyable series to read. The story happens at the same time as book 1 so there is a little overlap but is not annoying, it is very well done.
This is book two of the series and takes up where book one ended. There is a recapping of book one so you needn't have read it first. Enjoyable series. Love Devik and Emmy's story.
