Her experience is one in a million because she bled so much. Most women either bleed very little or not at all during their first experience with penetration as the hymen typically thins or breaks on its own (if it was ever there to begin with) during normal, everyday activities.
The doctor most likely stitched up the tear or was able to stop the bleeding all together. Considering that he was an ER doctor, he would have been training to think/treat on the fly, so I'm not surprised he was able to patch her up.
