Geoffrey Without the British it might have been even lower than 3%.

Geoffrey Geoffrey says see my comment above. You are one of the dim innumerate multitude I mentioned. I suspect, but do not claim to know, that without us British the Indian share of the world economy would not have been so great at the end of the period.See Alvani's book on the making of India by British enterprise.

Geoffrey This sort of innumeracy makes me despair. The 3% was a proportion of a much higher total, so that as an absolute amount it could logically be higher than the 27%. As far as I can tell, it was indeed so. Look at the world historical figures of GDP.
