US collaboration with Nazis for various reasons after the was is known, & probably not ethical in all cases, but there's a lot of discrepancy about it. This article is an author interview, about his book, & cannot be taken as fact.
He did the research on exactly what you’re asking about. It’s hard to learn things aren’t as rosy as you think. But they weren’t. The depiction of Udo’s escape and recruitment into the U.S. was accurate.
No delusions that anything about this era was "rosy," but as for the Udo Graf character...he was never a scientist at all or even a spy or in intelligence during the war, & his role in the camps was known, & there was screening, so why recruit someone like him? It just felt off, like maybe a plot device to fuel outrage.
