Oh I didn't know Gone Girl was of the horror genre too! It sounds kinda girlish if you'd excuse me lol, can I give it a try?
Thanks for the insight. I like grit. The problem I had with "Gone Girl" is that it didn't have any likable characters. I thought they all had serious personality disorders.
Based on your comment (and the other comments in response to my question) I'm going to give "The Girl on the train" a shot. (I also like creepy, psychological thrillers).
Girl on the train was extremely slow. It didn't pick up until it was over halfway complete, while Gone Girl kept me intrigued because the minds of Nick and Amy were just incredibly fascinating. It also probably helped that the book was so much more well-written than girl on the train.
I disagree. It took a hellava lotta time to gather pace, yes. But once it got going you just couldn't put it down.
I'm not sure ether would be 'gritty'. The characters are flawed, but I reserve grit for Harry Crews, Daniel Woodrell style.
So, James Emery, which of Harry Crews would you recommend? I have Winter's Bone (Daniel Woodrell) but I'm not familiar with Harry Crews. Would appreciate being pointed in the direction of his best (in your opinion, obviously).

I also hated Gone Girl, glad to hear that they aren't alike. Thanks for posting

Gone girl was very slow. I like this much better, though both have very unlikable characters.
