Nicole Bracciotti Im seventeen and think its awesome that you don't keep your children away from books because of words, etc. My parents are similar, though they don't read often. I can see where Gina is coming from, I think it depends on what you see as a strong character. I first read this book when I was fourteen as well and I think I was a little shocked that a novel would actually swear so much, even though I always heard words everywhere I went. Other then the initial shock factor I really enjoyed the others tone and diction.

Kimberly Thanks for writing such an open-minded and honest review! I really appreciate this. I'm actually baffled by all the bad reviews of this book and it seems people are only focusing on the language and grittiness...something Holly Black is known for (and why I love her) and what makes the teens in her books more believable. As a Librarian I warn teens younger than 16 or so about the grittiness, but many of them appreciate hearing characters in a book talk like many of them do every day (not toned down and "fake" as many books are). This series is what turned me onto her books and I've never turned back! I think people are forgetting that dark fantasy is supposed to be that: dark. It's not Twilight. Thanks again for your honesty! And being open to read it yourself and have that discussion with your daughter. Not many parents do that these days :)

Kimberly I will add, though, this wasn't the best book in this series!

Emma I love this review. So glad to see that even thoguh the content was too much for your daughter, you still saw past that to the good points of this book
