This review sums up the essence of the story for me. The title tells it all. I have not finished it but today today I read where Abdul, while in the detention center, beg and to understand there is hope, even for him

He grows up this day.. I am eager to see how it all ends for him.. He is the symbol of real hope for the future of the scavengers and garbage boys of Mumbai

It is a eye opener for those of us do not live this kind of life. It it a credit to the young people we get to know in the book that most of them still cling to HOPE. This book is sad but true.
