Kim Alisa, I agree with what you say, but I think the story was more about friendship and how much it could mean and how a small misunderstanding could ruin such a beautiful friendship. I found so much beauty in it, even through my outrage (how could women be treated so horribly? How could mother's be so hard?) ....I loved the end too...the redemption. I read this book right after we moved here and I think the thought of being so far from all of my girlfriends made the story hit me so hard...that's probably why I loved it sooo much...I just cried and cried, it was such a powerful story to me.

Alisa You're right- I can definitely see that- especially where they formed their own little society with their own language and where some had the attitude of "obey, obey, obey, and then do what you want". A friend had emailed pictures of what happened to the feet just before I read it- so that was what hit me the most- and what was on my mind when I read it! Thank you for your thoughts on the book, too!
