Gerri Hi, I have joined for several years now. I seem to have always just finished a big book right before start! Poor planning on my part, but I’m a mood reader.
I have a few I’m contemplating reading but will at least read one during the summer.
My list: They Were Sisters Dorothy Whipple
Villette Charlotte Brönte
Shell Seekers Rosamund Pilcher
The Adventures of Miss Barbara Pym Paula Byrne
The Moonstone Wilkie Collins
Pamela Samuel Richardson
Barchester Towers Anthony Trollope
Because of the Lockwoods Dorothy Whipple

And they’ll probably be on future lists, as I might only read one or two while reading some other shorter ones of favorite authors.
Happy Reading!
Gerri

Suzan Jackson Welcome back to Big Book Summer, Gerri!

I haven't yet read any Wilkie Collins or Anthony Trollope, but I look forward to trying them both. The Shell Seekers is on my pile for this summer, too!

Kathy Hi Gerri--you've got some wonderful books on your list!

I also love Dorothy Whipple and am planning to read They Were Sisters later this summer, so we can compare notes. Not sure if I'll get to Because of the Lockwoods until the Autumn. I think my favorite of hers that I've read so far are Young Anne and High Wages, but they've all been wonderful. I just love her writing.

I'll be interested to read your thoughts on Paula Byrne's book--I love Barbara Pym and have read all of her books. Is Byrne's book fiction or non-fiction?

I re-read the Moonstone last January and it inspired me to read Robinson Crusoe for the first time.

I love Trollope, especially Barchester Towers. I'm working on reading all of his novels, and have about 6 or 7 left; several are on my pile for this summer: The American Senator, Marion Fay, Cousin Henry (not a big book) and Mr Scarborough's Family.

I'm starting Big Book Summer with:
South Riding by Winifred Holtby,
James Herriot's All Things Wise & Wonderful,
and an audiobook (many times!) re-read of Pride & Prejudice

Have a great summer reading your Big Books!

Gerri Thanks Sue! Once I got into The Woman in White, I found it a real page turner!

Gerri Kathy, we should definitely compare notes on the Whipple books! She’s a favorite of mine also. The Byrne book is non-fiction and sounds very interesting about Barbara Pym.

You’re well ahead of me on Trollope! I’m starting with The Warden and then moving onto the others in that series as my first Trollope books. I keep hearing so much about them, and then I’ll enjoy them.
You have a great list too. I have South Riding in my TBR pile (and I’m curious about that one) and love the Herriot books.
My response seems to be covering up your list at the moment, so can’t see them all, but enjoy!

Kathy Gerri--do you watch readers on booktube at all? There's a favorite booktuber of mine, Katie Lumsden. Her youtube channel is called Books and Things, and right now she's doing "Trollope Thursdays" videos, as she just finished reading all 47 novels! I think she'll give you a good sense of what to expect from Trollope. They are usually great comfort reads for me.
Happy reading!

Gerri Kathy, Yes, it was watching her rate the 47, that finally pushed me to try them. I have some other BookTubers that I follow, with similar reading tastes that like Trollope. So I have a strong feeling that I will enjoy his writing. Did you mention your favorite?

That's the one I keep meaning to get to! I;m thinking maybe October this year ...

Kathy I think my favorite is the Barsetshire series, especially the first three and the last one. For an individual book,Ayala's Angel is delightful. I also loved The Three Clerks, but I need to re-read it to see if it's as good as I remember. And Miss Mackenzie is kind of an off-beat one that I enjoyed. They're really all good, some just better than others.
