Dray Officially the first review I've seen with a Veggie Tales reference--nicely done. This book entertained me well enough, and I learned some random circus trivia... I couldn't stomach the descriptions of animal abuse, though.

Meredith I hadn't looked at this review in forever, so I was like, "Veggie Tales? Whaa?" When I read your comment. Now I have Dr. Archibald's voice stuck in my head. I think I read over half of that book in that voice. Oh boy.

Yeah, the animal abuse was rough, and to me she didn't focus the story enough to make it worth it. Like, if her point was exposing abuse, that would be a different thing, but it felt to me like her point was to make the story moderately nasty and unpleasant. dislike. Even the abuse of the main chick, (whazerface, Esmeralda? I don't know) had that same fake feeling to me. I thought Gruen set it up like the animals and girl got abused because the guy was an abuser, and when they were with Jacob, life was perfect. That's not the worst story problem, but it seems pretty shallow to me. Okay, morning rant over. Now I can continue my day.

Ellen This book sounds like a botch.

Meredith It's not for me, but it's that popular-novel middle area again. I'm such a bitch about it.

Magdelanye great review here...I didn't even write one, tho I should to express my disappointment in a book that started so well and left me feeling somewhat emotionally exploited.
