Abby Hi everyone! I would love to get to know my fellow BFBs better, so comment some random facts about yourself.

My name is Abby. I'm fourteen. I love Jesus, reading, writing, tacos, summer, music, dancing, acting, signed books (I have a very big collection of them.) painting, crafting, running, day dreaming, journaling, thunderstorms, tea, sunshine, and adventuring. I have 4 siblings (I'm the oldest) My 2 favorite fandoms are Marvel, and Pirates of the Caribbean. My favorite kind of music is contemporary Christian. I also love listening to Awesome Mix Vol. 1( the soundtrack from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1) I have the hardest time sticking to a story idea. I jump from idea to idea and start a bunch of drafts. : (
I love connecting with authors and receiving advice from them. I just started my first year of high school. My favorite subjects are english, history, spelling, and writing. I love making friends with people who will encourage me in my walk with christ and people I can encourage.

I can't wait to get to know you all better!

message 2: by Hannah Joy (new)

Hannah Joy S. My name is Hannah, and my middle name is Joy! I live in New Zealand in a small town. I turned 16 last month.
I love Jesus, reading the Bible, journaling, reading, blogging, fresh air, sunrises and sunsets, baking, being outside, cuddling my dog Molly, laughing, listening to music, tea, flowers, chocolate and pasta. I prefer iced coffee over hot coffee, though I don't drink it often.
I surprisingly discovered that I love the Pirates of the Caribbean films a while ago because I usually only love romantic, more girly films like Anne of Green Gables and Emma 1996.
My favourite song at the moment is Run to the Father by Cody Carnes.
I have 7 siblings, and I am the oldest of 8(4 boys and 4 girls).

message 3: by Abby (new)

This is my first reading club and I hope to join many more.
That's all about me. hehehe. God bless you!!

message 7: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Baker (A Baker's Perspective) Hello! I’m Jessica and I find it funny that young people are just so eager to share their age, whereas I’m like, they don’t need to know I’m 38 and staring 40 in the eye 😬. But age is just a number!

I’ve been married for 18 years, and my only child is turning 17 in October. She’s a senior in high school, and I’m blessed to say we have a wonderful relationship. We actually make jewelry and T-shirt’s together for our Etsy shop, we bake together, read together, and just have fun. I love baking almost as much as reading. We’ve been teaching ourselves how to decorate and have made some pretty cool stuff.

I love peanut butter, birds, nature, photography of nature, my bible time, and my church. We have a small church, but these people are my family. In fact we often joke that we like hanging out with them more than our family lol. I teach to children under age twelve in our Wednesday night youth group (which part of the year only has two kids, that’s how small we are) and absolutely love it. I do have a full time job that I don’t love so much, but God has placed me there for a reason so I’m trying to stay positive.

So excited about this book club and rereading a great book!

message 8: by Linneah (new)

Linneah Olsen Hi everyone! My name is Linneah!

I am a writer of Biblical Fiction and in my opinion it's the very best genre to read! I am so excited about this book club, it's such a great idea to come together to discuss great Biblical Fiction! I'm beside myself excited to read this book, its one I haven't read before!

A little bit about myself is, as I mentioned before, I'm a biblical fiction author, I love writing, reading, I like the outdoors, running, hiking, hanging out with my friends from the young adults group at my church. And Jenna, I can't believe I have found another POTC fan! Haha, I haven't watched it in a while, but my cousin and I were like obsessed in high school!

Another little known fact about me, I am a premed major in school, so juggling my studies and my writing and reading can be a bit of a challenge, but I like a challenge.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you a little more as we go through this book together!

message 9: by Mesu (new)

Mesu Hello Hannah, Abby, Rose, Erika, Jessica, and Linneah! My name is Mesu (pronounced, Mee'-Sue--but you can pronounce it any way you like!), and I'm older than dirt! Well, not really, I guess. 55--double nickel. A "senior citizen" by some standards. Eeeeek! It looks worse in print!

I write biblical novels (I hate that term biblical fiction 'cause it sounds like an oxymoron since the Bible is Truth!). I love movies, waterfalls, travel, biblical research, writing, my dog Zeke, hanging out with my grand babies, and living in the mountains. I'm totally head-over-heels in love with Jesus, and I really like my husband a lot too. Tee-hee! Especially since hubby Roy is the one who introduced me to Jesus while we were dating.

We have two married daughters, wonderful sons-in-love, and eight gorgeous grands. My tenth book releases February 2020, and in March 2020 Roy and I get to celebrate by returning to Israel for our 2nd time (the 1st time was in 2000). It's my 10bk/20yr celebration trip of a lifetime, and 23 other folks are joining us!

I'm loving this amazing group that loves biblical novels as much as I do!

message 10: by Wendy (last edited Sep 18, 2019 07:44PM) (new)

Wendy Park Hi everyone! I don't get to post here as much as I would like, but I read the posts when I can. My name is Wendy. I was born and raised in Wisconsin, went to college in Illinois, and got to Texas as fast as I could following graduation where I have lived for the past 22 years minus a 5 month stint in California. I do not miss the snow one bit.

I am a widow of 5 years raising my 3 kids, ages 17, 14, and 7 1/2. I homeschool, teach writing at our co-op, and work a part time job for a health care broker from home. My oldest two and I teach in the classroom for kids with special needs at our church every other weekend.

Before my children were born, I was a teacher of students who were blind or visually impaired. Yes, I can read braille...mostly with my eyes. :) I was a certified braille transcribist with the Library of Congress, an honor I earned at age 19. Unfortunately, the braille code changed a few years back, so I am not up-to-date anymore.

I started reading Christian fiction in the '80s. Anyone remember the Elizabeth Gail series by Hilda Stahl? I remember the thrill of waiting for each new book in Bodie Thoene's Zion Chronicles series.

Once in a while, in my very little spare time, I write poetry and get to hang out in fun places like this. I get to do reading waiting around at all my kids' extracurriculars.

So glad to be here!

message 11: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Hey guys! I’m Joanna. I found this group on Instagram! I’ve loved biblical fiction since I read Two From Galilee back in seventh grade. I just turned 36 😭🤪but I look 26 and no one ever can guess my age which is fun sometimes. I’m also thankful I look young, cuz I’ve been single forever thanks to my career path as a dancer then missionary and now nanny which is fun cuz I get to play “mom” but then hand the kids over at the end of the day 🤷🏻‍♀️and I dance in a dance company. My life is pretty much kids, dance, and books.

message 12: by kami (new)

kami Hi all! My name is Kami (pronounced like Tammy with a K). I live in Nebraska, but I’m a native of Michigan. I am a school teacher. I’m old enough for my son to have asked me when he was little, quite seriously, if they had electricity when I was growing up (they did, but we did only have 3 channels on our 15 inch black and white t.v.). I have three grown children and four grandchildren.

I have been a Christian for 44 years. I’ve typically not been a reader of fiction. I like memoirs. Finding Jenna on Instagram was a God thing, and finding biblical novels was through Jenna. I read Two from Galilee and Three from Galilee about 25 years ago, but I did not stick with reading biblical fiction, which quite honestly makes no sense to me now.

I’m excited to be a part of this group, and to have the opportunity to read this new-to-me genre and discuss these books with y’all. I’m especially excited to be learning from you young ladies. I’ve been teaching for 22 years, and I feel like those I teach have more to teach me than I’ll ever teach them.

message 13: by Janice (new)

Janice Broyles Hi everyone, my name is Janice Broyles, and although I lived in Michigan most of my life, I now live in North Carolina. I'm an English professor, and I'm also a Biblical fiction author! (YES, it's true).

I am a BIG David and Michal researcher, and I've spent years studying the Bible and Jewish history books about who they were and what really happened. I found it so fascinating that I began to write the David sage, which is a three-book series that focuses on him from young man to King of Israel. The twist is that it also parallels Michal's story (she gets a bad rap, but she's really a sympathetic character).
I'm not saying all that because I'm self-promoting (really, I'm not), but I wanted you all to know just how much I LOVE Biblical fiction. Anything that helps others open the Bible and study it for themselves is a WIN in my book.

Have a blessed day!!

message 14: by Ruth (last edited Oct 15, 2019 01:05AM) (new)

Ruth Hi everyone, my name is Ruth and I live in New Zealand in the lovely sunny town of Nelson. I'm a full time Mama at the moment to our 2 year old and my husband works in ministry.

I grew up on a diet of Anne of Green Gables, Heidi, and Enid Blyton's books, to name a few. I now pretty much read exclusively Biblical Fiction - hands down my favourite. I looove authors like Tessa Afshar and Connilyn Cossette and Mesu Andrews and am always on the prowl for others.

I love history and theology and my passion is teaching children about God and the Bible. Actually, I'm just so passionate about anyone furthering their understanding of God and his word. I studied theology and used to work at church but right now I'm busy raising up my family to love the Lord.

Thanks, Jenna, for creating this group. It's cool to have somewhere to chat about something with other people who actually care about it too. ;-)

Jenna Van Mourik I am so glad to see you all on here, and see you guys interacting and getting to know each other! This group really is the "project of my heart" and I have a soft spot for each and every one of you that joins in and connects. I realized I never formally replied to this discussion board, mostly because I feel like so many of you guys already know a lot about me because you found this group through me? But I think I'll have a go at it now! :)

My name is Jenna, if you happened to stumble into our group via a Goodreads search or were invited by a friend, and I started BFB because I love the Biblical Fiction genre and want to share that love with other people. In my blogging journey, I was constantly getting DMs or e-mails from people who said that they wanted to start reading Biblical fiction, but didn't know where to begin (or they weren't even sure HOW to read Biblical fiction. Take everything with a grain of salt? Integrate it into your Bible study? Or don't read it at all? You get the idea). I realized after talking with some friends that I knew a lot about the genre and was incredibly passionate about it. My blog had been that thing that had pushed a lot of people to try Biblical fiction or inspired them to try Biblical fiction, but I still got messages from people. I was inspired to start a group where I could lead people through reading and through Bible study, and also start a community so that people could be connected with others. As much as I love receiving individual messages and DMs, I think there's so much that having a whole community for Biblical fiction fans can offer. Friendships, deep conversations, and recommendations from multitudes of people! So that's why I started BFB.

A few random facts about me... I got married when I was 18 and remain happily married to my high school sweetheart. Our wedding was book themed, specifically Anne of Green Gables. I'm allergic to fruit (yes, all of it. Even avocados). I'm afraid of chickens, like I literally have an irrational fear that chickens will peck me to death. I used to be a film student (with the goal to direct/edit films) before I decided I wanted to become a writer, but those experiences as a film student taught me a lot about the film industry, creative storytelling, and camera operation. In fact, I was able to start my YouTube channel due to what I'd learned as a film student, and I'd say that definitely helped me build my author platform. And... Oh yeah! I read, write, AND review Biblical fiction! My Biblical fiction WIP remains unpublished, but hopefully it will be someday soon... Maybe we'll even talk about it in this club?

That's all for now! So glad to meet each of you! Thanks for being a part of BFB <3
