Eva I think we must have had the same 4th grade teacher! Lol

Katie I bet your teacher went to teach 8th grade reading to me! We spent the entire year reading nonfiction and sci-fi about nuclear war, and this was during the 80's arms race. I'll never forgive her!

Totally agree with you about Paterson (and I like her stuff). Never read it without chocolate, or beer.

Ashley Krueger We read it in 4th grade too! I still think about it. I'll have to read it again!

message 4: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Allen This exactly how I feel about this book. Why did they decide that fourth graders could deal with this type of reality check?

message 5: by Ali Jeffries (new)

Ali Jeffries One of the best books, but it's sad that Leslie died

message 6: by E.F.B. (new)

E.F.B. I never had to read this in school but I saw the movie in high school and was just as upset by it. My mom was upset by it too. Like, seriously, this is considered appropriate for children??? :,(

message 7: by Chloe (new)

Chloe The same happened to me. I finished it at home and it made me cry. The next day I asked my teacher why she made us read that and also if we could avoid any other books like that. It was too sad for me at the time, and maybe still is.
