Peter Mcloughlin Excellent quotes from the book. I first read this book in 1985. I should have picked it up a year earlier for symbolic reasons but I didn't really get the reading bug until 1985 and this was one of the first novels I read.

Daniel Bastian Interesting. This was also among the first novels I read, having chosen it as part of a 9th grade reading assignment. Boy was it a different feel reading it again at my age. So much was missed, so much that must have gone right over my head in high school has real relevance for me today. Glad I returned.

Shane Gericke Love this review, Daniel, and you picked up some of the most probing quotes from Orwell's magnificent writing. Thanks for reminding me that I need to read this again--last time was high school :-)

Shane Gericke Orwell is very underrated as an author. Especially the many essays he produced in addition to his famous novels. He had a keen understanding of the human mind, from good to warped and evil.

Peter Mcloughlin Very relevant book because of the enormous surveillance power of the state. Especially here in the US which looks more and more like the Wiemar period in Germany.
