I think the King would not have Maxon physically in his castle if he were a rebel- son or not. I think if Maxon wasn't the king's son, and was a rebel, he would get much worse punishment than a beating.
Unless his pride in not being exposed as a cockould keeps him from revealing it. And I would argue knowing that your (supposed) father did not trust, believe in or even like you is the worst punishment a son can have at the hands of his father.
I don't think the Queen would cheat. I just think that maybe she might have been so desperate to have a child that she and the king might have adopted one. And maybe the King didn't want one. Or maybe the one they got was a disappointment to him or something.
