Sharon suggest you google camps and read up on the construction of a few of them and you will soon realize how unrealistic this was....

Dallas Todd I totally agree, although it has been a while since I have read this, it's totally unrealistic. No way in hell would Shmuel be anywhere near Bruno, especially with that gaping hole at the bottom of the fence, which brings me to my next point. There would in no way, what so ever, be a hole in the bottom of the fence, there is no way that is possible, because if there was, that would mean there was a way to escape, and there just simply wasn't a way to escape the camps. And guards would be all around the premises, they would have seen Shmuel talking to Bruno and set him straight to work, punish him or maybe even to the gas chambers.

Absolutely.....nice kiddies story but even then totoally dangerous as it misrepresents the full reality of the situation. Leads those not aware of the extent of history to believe otherwise. We watched the film and just were in amazement too! Shame I downloaded the......book! One can listen to book discussion programs, as I had, and be mislead to believing it was a serious read as it actually was getting praise and awards. Will be more careful next time.

Ian I think it is meant to be a fable rather than a work of actual realism.
