Erin WV Agreed! Edmund is the worst. Dull and self-righteous.

Ciaran Edmund bores me to death. Mansfield Park was my least favourite of Austen's novels.

Theresa Kenney Edmund befriends a shy and lonely little grl, sticks to his guns about his profession when a shallow woman tries to shame him out of it, admits he has been blinded by an infatation, nurses his dying brother (who never cared for him) back to health when if Tom died he could inherit the estate, is astonished and delighted to find out Fanny has loved him for years when he sets his heart on her -- in real life, a person like Edmund is hard to come by. He may not be Austen's most romantic hero, but aside from William (whom Fanny cannot marry), he's the only guy worth marrying in Mansfield Park AND Fanny AND Mary Crawford fall in love with him -- and don't forget, Austen says he's very good looking.
