Elinor shouldn't be able to excuse herself with the "she couldn't help herself". I could be just a curmudgeon about her but the best face to put on her would be to feel sorry for her in that she had NO LIFE and her love for Edward was the only thing to bring a spark into her drab life. But somehow I don't buy that either. Something to ponder.
