I think that you should read the infernal devices BEFORE city of heavenly fire... just saying because you might be spoiled if you read CoHF
no I think that both of the series compliment each other, even though the characters are different and so is the story they still link in some ways. I deffo think you should read the ID before you read City of Heavenly Fire because something happens which you'll understand more if you read the Infernal Devices. Also if you want to find out more about Magnus I recommend both the Infernal Devices and the Bane Chronicles :) so yeah and also WILL HERONDALE you won't regret reading the series after meeting Will
I agree with Beki, both series compliment each other well. Although I think you should read TID before COHF, if you don't it won't spoil anything, but you will definitely understand certain bits a lot more. Either way works though. I think you should read TID 100% though, no matter when :)
