exactly! I actually loved the fact that Tris died. I didn't expect it but I am happy with the fact that it happened. I love books that end with the main character dying at the end of the series. When the author announces that they are going to have a certain number of books i expect characters to die.
I totally agree with both of your points. It wasn't Tris's death that spoiled the book (although I sat in the corner and cried like a baby for a while too). The whole genetic war was hard to care about when we had no real connection to the characters outside of Chicago until the final book and none of them seem that worth redeeming anyway. That's why it's totally okay that Tris and Tobias sacrifice so much to erase their memories; the outside world is full of humans that shouldn't on principle be killed, but they lack a moral compass and thus aren't worthy of being in control of the lives of others.
