Jem Finch

Jeremy Atticus "Jem" Finch is Atticus' son and Scout's older brother by four years. Jem matures greatly throughout the course of the novel and is much more affected by events (his mother's death before the novel begins, the racism in the town, the death of Tom Robinson) than Scout is due to his greater understanding of them. His best friend is Dill. After the Maycomb pageant, Jem and Scout are attacked by Bob Ewell. Jem's arm breaks at the elbow, and he is knocked unconscious. He is carried home by Arthur "Boo" Radley.
