My grandson likes airplanes so I purchased this book but I'm not so thrilled about it. I like the realistic pictures of the airplanes and helicopters but there are hardly any lift and look tabs in the book and what’s with the tabs? Why doesn't the book address the tabs? Nowhere in the text does the book say anything about what's behind the tabs, I find this really strange. We have to literally feel around on every page to figure out where the tabs are and then, pull them open to reveal what's behind them and just look. We don’t get to “know” anything?
On the inside cover we are told, "look for this little blue bird in every page." Okay, that to me was like a bonus treat on each page but wait, this is not a bonus, this is what the whole book is about. On page 1, the big text reads, "These big jets are at a busy airport. Can you find the little bird here too?" that’s all the text that’s on these two pages which contains 2 big jets which are loading people and their luggage at the airport. I felt with my hands 4 flaps on these pages (2 on each page). There is nothing written about what's behind the flaps which is rather disappointing. The next page states, "These planes are doing an exciting show high in the sky. Can you spot the little blue bird?" and again, 4 total flaps to peel back on these 2 pages with no other text. So, look at it and move on.
I'm rather disappointed in this book. Can you at least give the children some knowledge about the information behind the flaps (even in small print)? Educate them. I did enjoy the bright, colorful, realistic illustrations.
