Marin County, just north of San Francisco, must be one of the most scenic, nearby places to explore. My favorite hikes found in this book are Tennesee Valley (part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area), Mt.Tamalpias (especially Rock Springs), and Point Reyes National Seashore. But it is hard to leave out the smaller, but equally beautiful Mt. Burdell and Ring Mountain (home of the rare Tiburon Mariposa Lily).
This is a thorough guide to Marin hiking trails with helpful details like the percentage of the trail that is shaded, elevation gain, and difficulty and interest ratings. You can bring the book with you on the trail, or download the map and hike description from their website. My only wish is that there were more 10+ mile loop hikes.
