This is the first Romance Novel I ever read! I loved it and it fueled my desire for this type of book! And it also helped Janelle Taylor become one of my favorite authors. I prefer the historical romance the lives of those long ago, and their loves.

I loved this book because there was an abundance of intrigue, magic, conniving, plots within plots, conspiracies, and romance.

It takes place before England was united as one country and when there was more than one kingdom.

It was fun watching the two MCs dance around the truth and each other with their lies as they fall in love.

I enjoyed this tale of deceit, treachery, potions, magic, Vikings, prince, princess and death.
Alysa is a princess whose life is in danger from her stepmother. Gavin is a prince in disguise as an adventurer who was sent by Gavin's grandfather to rescue Alysa.
The author did not limit this story to only the primary characters. She included bits and pieces of the secondary characters lives as well. It helped readers to understand the betrayal and treachery of each secondary character that was afoot.
Each page I turned, there is always something happening which keeps me on my toes and keeps this story interesting. I had a Game of Thrones feeling whilst reading this book because of the amount of deceit from loved ones that happen in this book. My one complaint is that I wish Alysa's stepmother and half brother had died a more painful slow brutal death for all the harm they caused innocent people. The battle scene at the end of this story was not explained thoroughly and it was rushed.
Nevertheless I enjoyed this one and the story continues in the second book Wild Sweet Promise so I cant wait!

Princess Alyssa hides her identity from the handsome brigand in the woods near her castle. She seeks aid for her father, ill from poison administered by Alyssa’s stepmother in a ploy for power. She doesn’t know that the mysterious stranger is Prince Gavin, sent by their king to investigate presumed treachery. Tossed together by fate, Alyssa and Gavin try to deny their attraction but destiny weaves their paths. Can Alyssa rely on Gavin’s help to save her father? Or will the evil Isobail prevail? A classic historical romance, this fantasy setting enhances a delightful tale.
