Not being able to control your temper is a potentially dangerous thing, not only for you, but for those around you as well. In 'Saving the Bodyguard' by Serena Yates, Leo Taber was angry, irritable, and obnoxious most of the time because he couldn't or wouldn't admit that he had a problem managing his anger. He finally admitted that maybe he had a problem and begrudgingly agreed to attend an anger management program. What he didn't realize when he walked through the doors at the anger management ...more

What do you do when the love of your life has issues?

Okay, that's actually not a fair question. We all have issues. It's what we do about those issues that's the thing, and it's the thing Serena Yates writes about in Saving the Bodyguard. Released today, on June 13, this is the first volume in my second linked cycle of New Horizons books. Each cycle features four characters, and each gets a book for his story.

Saving the Bodyguard tells the story of Leo, an ex-bodyguard who now runs a security company with a good friend. Business does not go as well as expected, and he soon faces anger management issues. He is very skeptical about the ten-day course his friend recommends, but feels he has no choice but to go. Once at the retreat,

Leo Taber is not a pleasant guy to be around. His anger management issues result him beginning a ten-day retreat where he encounters the much more likable Felix Oakden. Felix's career as an accountant is at a standstill due a vengeful and abusive ex-boyfriend, so he works as a waiter. The two men begin what is meant to be a short fling, but it soon shows the potential to be so much more when disaster strikes.

What I liked about Saving the Bodyguard was how much Serena Yates managed to accomplish

I’m a night owl and start writing when everyone else in my time zone is asleep. I’ve loved reading all my life and spent most of my childhood with my nose buried in a book. Although I always wanted to be a writer, financial independence came first. Twenty-some years and a successful business career later I took some online writing classes and never looked back.
