Hot, sweet, sexy and funny.

This specific book here is both the second book I read by Robin Alexander, back in February 27 2014, and the second book I’ve successfully reread by Alexander.

When I started the book, I was somewhat uncertain what kind of reaction I might have, what I might find – for, you see, while Robin Alexander has become one of the top lesbian fiction authors I read (somewhere, without thinking too hard about it, within the top three), Alexander was also the author I read three books by in 2014, then didn’

Robin's fun new book 'The Summer of Discontent' led me to this one. If 'Summer' was fun in a farcical way, this is ROFL-funny.

I love Shannon, her vibrating legs, and her hilarious internal running monologue (with disparate voices for her brain and her body(!)) She's shy, introverted and anti-social but load her up with a few chugs of alcohol and she's totally badass. :)

Shannon was really well done. And the development of her character was what made the story so appealing. Hailey, on the other

My first Robin Alexander book and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Totally loved Shannon - her sometimes hilarious, awkwardness and quirkiness. Her internal dialogues are seriously funny. Though the story is a little bit predictable, this is the kind of book that will keep putting a smile on your face. I'm definitely going to check out other works from the author.

I just reread this yesterday and loved it even more the second time.

Adorable, sweet, funny and very well-written, Pitifully Ugly captures amazingly well all the insecurities, fears and frazzled nerves that come with trying to connect with someone you really like.

I can't say enough good things about Robin Alexander's books. They're consistently pleasing and get what so much of lesfic does not: that true love, the kind that both pulls you in and lasts, is based on friendship first, romance secon

Laughter is very healthy! But read this in the morning or day, because laughter releases some chemicals that bring increased energy, and i couldn't sleep for hours after reading this!!

This book was funny, laugh out loud funny, the whole way through. By the first couple chapters, i had enjoyed the read so incredibly much, that it had already earned the money i spent on it. The characters, the one liners, the internal dialog, was spot on!

I was surprised that the romance aspect of it delivered as w

Shannon Brycen is looking for love but is unsuccessful, especially when her sister Kalen plays matchmaker.  She puts up a profile on an online site and meets several women but which one takes her fancy?

I've read this book at least a handful of times and it was one of the first books I've read in the lesfic genre.  I must say, it never gets old and never fails to make me laugh out loud.

It's written in the first person from Shannon's point of view.

2.5 stars. It would have been a solid 3 because it is a typical cute, fluffy getting together novel, but I had a few issues with it. One, the "hurdles" that kept getting in the way of the two main characters were a little too contrived. They were clearly intended to keep them apart for as long as possible, rather than tell a good story.

But my real issue with this book comes from a bit of false advertising. We've all come to accept, I think, that characters in stories will be described as good l

3.5stars. It is a good book, nothing wrong with 3 stars! When I first rated this book, I know I posted it months after I had read it. I still don't understand why I gave it 5 stars, because I remember not liking it as much as other 5 star Alexander books. I think as I seriously rank more books, I've become stricter on my ratings. This is one of the reasons I decided to re-read it. It has likable characters throughout but I think Hailey is the main weakness of this book. I understand her situatio ...more

To be short and sweet (though perhaps not literally), the most interesting element of this book was the fact that it was lesbian fiction, a genre and unknown land which I hadn't yet ventured into previously. Not to say that this book wasn't enjoyable, yet it was a rather standard and somewhat dull romance.

The much acclaimed humor (and what was probably the biggest selling point for me) was rather overestimated in my opinion, however, I did find it funny, and laughed out loud at times (it's not

3.5 stars. There's some good humor in this book and it's an easy read. I would recommend reading it.

The reason for the 3.5 stars versus a higher rating is my personal taste. I really liked the protagonist, Shannon, but I didn't care too much for the love interest, Hailey, because she was hot and cold so much. I think the author was going for insecure/scared but, to me, she was also coming off as petulant bordering on immature when she'd get in her moods. It made me want to have Shannon run the o

I've read this before when I first started reading lesbian fiction but for some reason have very little recollection of the first reading. Now having finished it again I've increased my rating and wonder if I actually finished it the first time.

There was lots of witty dialogue, some crazy occurrences and great characters in Pitifully Ugly. It's funny and heart-warming. It's definitely worth reading and as good as the other Robin Alexander novels I've read since I supposedly read this the first

3.5 stars.

It's a fluffy, cute, quick read. At first I was rolling my eyes at its predictable plot and immature characters but then I started thinking that maybe those deep plots and characters aren't what the author aims for in this book. So I lowered down my expectations and just enjoyed the ride. Turned out that it was a very fun read, made me laugh out loud at random times.

This book was a real pleasure. Hysterically funny. I loved the relationship the characters had with the dog. The dog was a great secondary character all on its own. This author has yet to let me down which is a remarkable thing. There are very few authors that consistently impress me book after book.
I enjoyed the romance in this one as well. Was it frustrating? Yes, ofcourse but when is love simple and smooth? I enjoyed the hesitations and the thought behind actions. The push and pull is consist

This was a really cute romance. Shannon, after yet another disastrous blind date set up by her sister (Kalen), decides to give online dating a try. Choosing the nickname "Pitifully Ugly," Shannon meets some really kooky people - and someone who intrigues her, but seems rather hesitant to meet. To complicate matters, Shannon finds herself falling for her new neighbor, Haley, although Haley is straight (or is she?). The characters are all really likable, and I found myself laughing out loud in sev ...more

really great little love story. Though the online part, which is supposed to be the hook, is a little too light and a few more dates would be have been hilarious, the love story is too good to be distracted from. Definitely a keeper. I would likely re-read it just for the date with the hair-dresser -- laugh out loud funny

Very bland and flat (didn’t find it funny like so many reviewers here), but there’s not enough lesbian fiction out there so I’m giving it 2 stars.

I felt like Hailey, the love interest, wasn’t her own distinct person. All I really know about her is that she has amazing curly hair and a dog. Had trouble even remembering her name to write this review & I only just finished the book tonight. How am I supposed to root for/like a love interest when they are just a shadow of a character?

This book is good. But maybe I'd read too many good reviews before finally had it, it didn't meet my expectations. What the book did to me was like making me do a long-distance run competition. At the beginning of the race, you are fresh, still strong and you want to make a good start by having faster pace run. In the middle of the run, you now need to adjust to the lower but consistent and sustainable pace. Then at the end, you want to give out everything you have left and sprint towards the fi ...more

It's a feel-good read.

Nothing overly dramatic happens. It comes with a guaranteed happy ending. Some hot sex scenes for good measure. A little, cute and funny dog, aptly named Fluffy. A nice dose of humor. All-around great characters and a nice pace and flow to the story.
So it's just a solid book. But it doesn't have that extra thing that makes it special. It follows the recipe, so to speak. You know what's going to happen - and then it happens. But it's well-written, so it's still enjoyable to

A super sweet tale that makes the reader feel good about themselves. Sometimes a little pick me up is what you need in a book. It's a good feeling.

The main character here thinks she is ugly and an unloveable and of course, as she explores, loves and grows she finds out she isn't.

This book is about bravery and if you are just taking small steps in the right direction (out your door, into the world) eventually you will get there.

This book is about how everyone deserves a chance at happiness.

the loveliest thing about this book was self talk and humorous embarrassing online dates . the topic of cheating was confusing for me though , i understood hailey's guilt and her reluctance bcoz of it but shannon & kalen's pov took me slight aback coz everyone knows there is no age limit of realization of your sexuality & shannon's reluctance was unnecessarily wrong irrespective of her father's infidelity
