I know these are supposed to be kid books but they are awesome! Great pictures and just enough text to make you want to learn more. Excellent choice for a beginning history reader or to start an older reader out in a new area, very recommended.

Lots of information and great illustrations about daily life in the Roman Republic and Empire. This book will also enhance your understanding of the Apostle Paul's journeys to towns and cities just like these as chronicled in the New Testament book of Acts.

The pictures and maps in this book are very useful and age appropriate for my first grader with one exception. The pictures of the Roman bath have bare bums showing which is probably accurate for the times but just so future viewers are aware.
