When Candice Olson was on HGTV, I watched her religiously but came to realize that her projects all looked alike. I found that in this book, too. Although attractive, her spaces seem all shiny and hard-edged to me. She uses too much hard-to-keep-nice shiny chrome, mirror, and/or glass tile, her palette is very cool toned and silvery, her cabinet profile of choice is Shaker. And she seems to stuff her spaces with mindless accessories. I don't see any of the homeowner's personality or even much of their prized possessions. (I'm currently reading House Beautiful's Think Small and the contrast is stunning.) There were items within some of her projects that I wished were identified in a source directory, but alas... This book is good for inspiration. I actually read through most of the text before realizing it was unnecessary and repetitious.

My personal style is much different than Candice Olson, but this book was excellent. The book gives examples of real life kitchens and baths that Candice has remodeled to be more user friendly. Her solutions to problem spaces are excellent and unique. She also does an excellent job explaining what you need for work spaces. I recommend this fresh look at kitchen design for anyone remodeling a kitchen!

I admire Candice for being able to change a bathroom or a kitchen from a white box to a spa or a chef's dream. It takes the ability to knock down walls or build custom cabinetry, which I would love to learn how to do, but where to start? Maybe that's why I like looking at designs of bedrooms and family rooms more: because I can actually see myself emulating Candice's work in those rooms, but not in a kitchen or a bathroom!

It's a nice book to leaf through and the pictures were great but I do wish she had mentioned where she got some of the decor pieces or where you could purchase something similar.

Definitely more for inspiration than a how to, it's filled with a lot of pictures and her sketches which has always been one part of her show that I really like that isn't highlighted on her website clearly enough.

Great decorating and space arrangement ideas for kitchens and baths. They aren't 'budget' ideas, but neither are they ridiculously high end.
