Fodor's Escape to the Riviera will inspire and guide you as you plan your Riviera getaway. Play Scott and Zelda on the shores of France and Italy or follow the footprints of Picasso and Cousteau. Each of the 20 experiences and sights it highlights are illustrated in 160 luscious full-color photographs. The planning section tells you all about costs, lodging options, how to get there, and more, and a detailed map shows you what's where. Escape to the Riviera is lovely enough to treasure as a dream book, yet durable enough to withstand the rigors of travel, so keep this book by your bedside to sweeten your dreams, or pop it into your tote bag when you hit the road. And get ready for the trip of a lifetime.
This is one of the best books about the Riviera I've ever read. Nancy Coons' voice is rather that of a skilled writer than that of a journalist, which makes this book a really romantic read. Photographer Owen Franken doesn't focus so much on the views and sights everybody will know from glamour magazines but is showing the more picturesque character of the Riviera and its hinterland. The reader is as much informed about festivals and glamorous places as about interesting hikes and historical facts, nearly untouched hideouts and sea-adventures, with the names of the happy few of the last decades and centuries hovering above the scene.
